It's almost like the federal govt has their own taxpayer subsidized corporate welfare/jobs program that is competing to launch to the moon.
I get what you're saying though.

The Dems are all worried bc they know Elon is building this to launch all of them to Mars.

I am surprised they don't fly the parts up to the Space Station, assemble it there and launch from space.*
How much fuel could you save not having to break free of gravity? Would seem important on a long arse flight to Mars.
*Yes, I know I said that like its an easy task but this whole thing is a pretty hard deal. In the scheme of things, it would seem plausible.

Isn't the eventual plan to use space station / moon as basically a layover to Mars?

People understand you gotta blow things up sometimes to learn about them and make them better, but that generally doesn't extend to areas / things not owned by SpaceX. ANd if they are setting fire to parks and damaging buildings in towns, that's going to be an issue.
Yeah, you'd have to be in government to do that sort of thing without repercussions

Have you seen the picks of the launch pad? That huge rocket destroyed it. There were also several engines that didn't function after launch and the early speculation that the engines were damaged by the flying crap at launch. That may have contributed to the instability in the rocket, leading to its explosion. Holding the launch permission until they figure out how to safely launch a rocket of that size is the right thing to do. They will figure it out, and the next rocket launch will be much safer.
There was discussion about how this was also a test to see what the rocket would do to the launchpad. They didn’t spend the money to build the exhaust diversion channel, the water suppression system, etc. Now they know what the rocket can do and they didn’t waste money on the eventual improved launchpad on the first launch which might have blown up on the launchpad.

No one but a few locals from the village knew it existed before Space-X moved there. Would love to see the economic impact of the area since they opened shop.

quote:Correct. The idea is to dock with a station that can refuel the starship or use another starship and dock in a way similar to airplane when they refuel, except in space.

Every kilogram of material has to be brought to orbit, whether in smaller amounts on a bunch of falcon 9s or all at once on the starship.

It's one of the reasons SpaceX chose that location. Essentially bc there wasn't much there.

The violent destruction of the launch site has caused the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to ground the rocket for the time being and launch an investigation into what caused the fallout

SpaceX will have to reapply for their launch license before they can try their hands at another test flight.
None of this would be happening if Elon didn't open Twitter up to free speech and quit taking money from the FBI to censor conservatives - textbook abuse of power.

If Mush was a flaming liberal FAA wouldn't have done a damned thing.
The democrats don't like commercial free enterprise.

Have you seen how Carribbean governments operate? That's where the term Banana Republic originated.
pre-Sandinista central America was the poster child for "banana republic".

I sympathize with Musk but if I were in Port Isabel, I'd be a bit pissed with a layer of dust and crap on my pickup too.
I get cooling tower overspray on my car everyday at work. Guess I should call in TCEQ to shut down the plant because my vehicle is dirty…

There are people on the Left, even in Congress, that want SpaceX nationalized. This could be the opening salvo.

This is not unusual for the FAA and not that worrisome. They have months of repair ahead of them, which also provides time for the worthless government employees to wane on their power trip.
A rocket this large has never been launched before, now they have a better idea of what it takes to contain the fury.
Once the upgrades/protections are in place and the next booster and Starship are stacked, their will be public pressure to issue license.
Everyone wants to see this happen, we will get another launch this year.
