Didn't see this posted on the launch thread or anywhere else.

The violent destruction of the launch site has caused the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to ground the rocket for the time being and launch an investigation into what caused the fallout

SpaceX will have to reapply for their launch license before they can try their hands at another test flight.

I think the original launch license was for a year's worth of launches.

We know the launchpad had some issues, but apparently that wasn't all.

quote:

A cloud of dust and debris tore through the nearby town of Port Isabel, coating everything in a thick layer of dust, shaking buildings and shattering windows. The beaches of nearby Boca Chica experienced the same, potentially harming the protected environments of endangered animals. Closer cities that had been evacuated experienced flying chunks of concrete.

And Boca Chica State Park caught on fire. Yes, on fire. The launch caused a blaze over 3.5 acres of land, some of which was in the state park. Though Texas officials have yet to see any evidence of dead wildlife, the disruption of their behavior has already been noted.

If Elon FAFO with respect to endangered animal habitats, he's going to have all manner of federal agencies up his backside.

People understand you gotta blow things up sometimes to learn about them and make them better, but that generally doesn't extend to areas / things not owned by SpaceX. ANd if they are setting fire to parks and damaging buildings in towns, that's going to be an issue.

If Elon says he is a sovereign citizen and is traveling to space instead of launching they can't require him to have a license.

Boca Chica is a shite hole. SPI is OK for Texas beaches, but BC is not.

That's a good one.

Have you seen the picks of the launch pad? That huge rocket destroyed it. There were also several engines that didn't function after launch and the early speculation that the engines were damaged by the flying crap at launch. That may have contributed to the instability in the rocket, leading to its explosion.

Holding the launch permission until they figure out how to safely launch a rocket of that size is the right thing to do. They will figure it out, and the next rocket launch will be much safer.

If Elon FAFO

Going to take a swing and say that an EIS was required for the original permit. Since the permit was issued then there could be no FAFO. The government would have estimated the potential impacts to be minimal enough to warrant issuing the permit. Best case, the Fed FAFO way more than Elon but both are still on the hook.

I find it interesting that every time SpaceX gets a little closer to full independent flight the FAA steps in to slow them down.

Why is Elon still futzing around with launching from the US when he could buy a whole carribean island and do what he wants?

It's almost like the federal govt has their own taxpayer subsidized corporate welfare/jobs program that is competing to launch to the moon.

Biden Administration wants the DNC propaganda machine back in its old form. They’re holding Space X hostage.

Have you seen how Carribbean governments operate? That's where the term Banana Republic originated.

Plus he'd have to get workers to live there.

Well the government is paying for SpaceX too so...

Watch Elon move about 10 miles south to Playa Bagdad, mehico. that would be funny to watch the FAA squirm.

I sympathize with Musk but if I were in Port Isabel, I'd be a bit pissed with a layer of dust and crap on my pickup too.

I have seen how ours operate too .

One part, yes. But that's more out of necessity because everyone else is years behind SpaceX, while Artemis and NASA are 10x more expensive. Fortunately the FAA can ground SpaceX whenever they need to if they get too far ahead.

I would imagine the US could put enough pressure on Mexico to extend their reach.

Not to mention SpaceX potentially losing government contracts.

Strange, they had a ton of people standing on South Padre watching the launch and no one was hurt. Blew a bunch of concrete and sand onto some concrete road and sandy beach. FUK the Gubment.

This is so retarded. What SpaceX is doing is mission critical to NASA and by default, FedGov. Not to mention the commercial application of Starship once proven.
They will have to do more mitigation and re-engineer the pad but it will continue on. Frick dem birds and frick the small quantity of people demanding 24/7 beach access.
SpaceX better get on getting the starship pad at the Cape up and ready too.

Only until technology still gets developed.

Once they start flying people out of earth orbit it's game on.
