If you think that this case has anything to do with the "end" of qualified immunity, you don't understand qualified immunity.

Still strong in Mississippi got a call yesterday from guy who was injured and car totaled when cop did an unexpected u turn in middle of road before turning on his lights and crashed into him. Of course, they denied claim saying they have qualified immunity

For decades, the basis of qualified immunity was "well, they didn't know any better and no case law for it". That doesn't fly any more as we now have years of judgements for defendants and denial of qualified immunity so cops "know better" now. For example, all cops should know by now that someone giving them them the middle finger is not unlawful as we have multiple court cases upholding it as free speech. Cops that stop someone solely for giving them the middle finger have now been held personally liable for the unlawful stop. You would think body cameras would have changed the behavior of cops for the better. They haven't. But the body cam footage has tremendously helped in the denial of qualified immunity. No more lying.

Sounds like some of you are all butthurt at the thought of facing accountability. And you're just in deep denial. There has never been a time like the past two years where qualified immunity has been denied with such frequency. Many people didn't even know of the subject until social media and the prevalence of body cam footage. Financial devastation of bad cops is a good thing. Only cops and their bootlickers would have an issue with that.

I’m simply saying nobody is above the law and qualified immunity allows cops to almost literally do what they want with no repercussions.

It literally doesn’t though.

People (the OP included) just have little to no understanding of it other than what they read on some random website or the news in 2020. It was made to be this big scapegoat just to undermine the police like numerous other law enforcement items.

Did you know the courts have also ruled that it is ok to discriminate against hiring a police applicant if they are too intelligent? There's another reason why I'm not qualified. I can think for myself and won't blindly follow orders.

I agree, but it goes both ways. A good friend of mine is a police officer. Has probably written the fewest tickets in his department. If he found someone with weed, he'd either pour it out or stuff it back in their pockets. Once body cams came out, he got caught stuffing it back in the pocket and was written up on a random cam audit. After that, he arrests them all, since it's breaking procedure if he doesn't. Maybe nowadays all he has to do is write a ticket, but use to, he'd just ignore the casual bag of weed.

I was with him when I was strolling a pt on stretcher in ER and bag of weed fell out of pt's pockets as we moved him to the bed Nurses weren't in there yet, pt's eyes were just that "oh shite" look. Cop buddy just stuffed it back in his pockets and told him to keep his mouth shut.

You take an obscure 25 year old case as your evidence

You support bad cops like Zachary Wester and Amber Guyger. We get it.

Are you genuinely retarded or is it something you’ve had to work towards over the course of your life?

If it’s the former, I apologize and I’ll leave you to it.

Abolishing Qualified Immunity seems like one of those, "careful what you wish for" scenarios.
It's got slippery slope written all over it.

That's not really a qualified immunity issue unless they tried to sue the cop directly for the accident. It's technically an insurance issue.

So while some of you list rare instances of blatant abuse of power.......

The far more common effect will be cops not getting involved when you get the shat beat out of you by a couple of gang bangers at the ATM because they dont want some blm, or immigrants rights group suing them.

Be careful what you ask for.

I know this is somewhat off-topic.

but I didn’t think I would appreciate police body cams as much as I do. They’ve essentially ended the BLM movement.

Thug gets arrested, family throws a fit, hires a lawyer, starts holding press conferences, media begins eating it up as their next George Floyd moment…..PD release body cam footage of thug not only is resisting arrest, acting like an a-hole, but also putting everyone on scene in danger. Story completely dies down.

rinse and repeat.

I bet you’re a ton of fun to be around. Seems to me you have a problem with authority. That’s your problem to deal with. If you don’t know how to follow you sure as hell can’t lead.

Before you say something stupid, actually think. If you are as smart as you proclaim to be, you won’t respond. We all know what is going to happen…
