The real question is how much legal work gets assigned to outside firms.

Why so we can now double our costs by paying two school superintendents, two school system attorneys, two school boards etc for the same number of shitty schools.

The cancer has metastasized. You can form a new school system but it won't change anything. You are kidding yourself if you think there's going to be a mass exodus from the private schools to the newly formed school district. The concept of St George is about 20 years too late to make a difference in the school system.

Guaranteed with benefits. He could possibly make more in private practice, but it may not be guaranteed.

So
quote:

General Counsel Gwynn Shamlin
is getting a massive pay raise because
quote:

Board President Shashonnie Steward said the figure was settled on after she researched how much lead school attorneys are making in other larger urban school districts across the country. Steward said she received help from the Washington, D.C.-based Council of Great City Schools.
. What a joke.

Why don’t you go vote if you’re Republican? This happens.

Curious to know what is the plan for the old Broadmoor middle school. It has been sitting empty for the last ten years and has sheets of plywood across the windows.

Classy.

He needs a big pair of glasses (bigger than Harry Cary) to fit in with the group.

The top 3 highest paid people in the EBRPSS are making over $750,000.

The board has been sitting on teacher pay raises for 2 years now because they didn’t like how it would be funded.

Funny how they can find funding for this.

Vote NO on ALL school board millage renewals.

This should make parents with kids in EBR Schools mad. But it won't.

Glad I don't pay taxes in BR anymore.

no one will pay for two of anything.

Zachary #6, Central #7 beg to differ. EBR currently ranks #54 out of 71.

Everyone keeps pointing at this without any true analysis. Just regurgitate "the lines" and it must be true. I don't think the results will be the same.

The major difference between St George and Central and Zachary is that they were already communities with a quasi community school systems that happened to be under the umbrella of EBR schools. When they broke away they were already good schools. They didn't require a massive turn over in teachers or school administrators. It was business as usual.

I don't think you can say the same about Woodlawn and its feeder schools. According to Google 95% of Woodlawn's current student body comes from economically disadvantaged families. EBR's school map shows Woodlawns boundaries are similar to the St George boundaries. In contrast Central and Zachary both have approximately 50% of their students come from poor families.

I don't see the affluent people that make up St George taking their kids from the private schools that they are currently attending to participate in this experiment. People are going to take a wait and see approach which means it will be business as usual. If anything St George may continue to see an exodus of those that desire a good public education to surrounding communities and to Baton Rouge to attend Baton Rouge High.

As a community we are. Just like in any divorce money may come from two separate pots but it will still be an overall increase in total cost due to duplication of services.

Shamlin is good at what he does, but a raise that is more than most teachers make in a year is a bit of a slap.

Have you actually talked with the parents of kids in private and parochial schools in the SG area? I have, and the majority of them would love to save tens of thousands in tuition each year.

and this is the loudest opposition group. They don't give a damn about the rest of the parish so long as their child's golden ticket gets punched. It's a small group.

As far as paying twice, Once SG ISD is established, EBR will have less to pay for, and SG will pick up the tab for their schools. The bill will be split. no one in SG will b=pay for EBR and visa versa.
