Apparently, Jansport back packs have been a “cool” item since the 80s, cause we had them in HS. That’s what the cool kids toted their books in for class.

Jansport was THE backpack to have ever since I was a young kid in school.

They do last forever. I had one of the ones in senior year of HS that had the rubber tire bottoms. Lasted through rest of HS and college and nursing school. Was still in excellent condition when I gave it away to family.

Mine looked something like this but was black

I’m confused where the Vans come into play because the shoes in the picture are clearly Airwalks

whoever made this is an idiot that pretty much combined 2 different types of kid of that era.

The bradley taylor (and many others) center part hair, portable walkman, old navy type shirts was one type. Then a completely different type was the Jncos, vans, chain wallets. And those were typically the "freak" kids that listened to Korn and dyed their hair blue.

whole "No Fear" brand was intended to be the opposite of emo. I wasn't a fan, though

Nobody wore it at my school...although I think some may have had a sticker on their trucks. Those pants though we're a sure sign of a loser.

Although the Jansport backpack is spot on.....everybody had those....many had the suede leather bottom.

Many girls had a variation of this one at my HS

They just weren't big enough for me. I always had a lot of homework so needed a bag large enough to carry all my textbooks and notebooks home.

I was in late elementary and jr high when all this was going on and people wore em. I had a no fear shirt but mainly like Mossimo and Tommy Hilfiger. I wanted to get a Yaga shirt but my parents wouldn’t let me.

I was 17 in 96 and don't remember this haircut with kids my age. That was more my little brothers high school era, I think.

I do remember that awful top knot hairstyle that I may or may not have sported at one time.

I couldn't find the exact haircut but it was sort of like this but the ponytail was lower in the back::

That was the grunge kid starter kit. I was sipping on my surge proper, wearing my chinos.

This was more of the possibly shoot up the school starter pack or hacky sack guy starter pack.

Edit: Grunge is definitely a better description than school shooter.

Not a single item in that image is grunge. JNCO's and a No Fear shirt? RATM?

Grunge was pretty much dead by 96.

I agree. Some rave people wore them. All that wore them were/are losers.

Ok, "skaters". These were the kids most likely to dye their hair with koolaid powder.
