Maybe they could do a gofundme to make up for the $516.38 loss?

This is what happens when you live north of I10
This and the fact you don’t need the rest of the state to bail you out WHEN a hurricane hits, EVERY TIME. You folks forget you are costing US money every single time.

To be fair reading the article, seems like the previous administration checked out early.

A news agency should be able to easily figure this out without needing to interview people.

Well that was easy, and I'm not even a "journalist" and don't live in Lousisiana. According to that website from the "Louisiana Association of Tax Administrators," this tax decrease went into effect in January 2025. This Mayor took office in January 2025.
Looks like they already fired the Mayor responsible.

I've long ago given up hope of our politicians accepting responsibility for anything.

Well, I'm sure the people responsible won't take responsibility, but this tax renewal should have been on the ballot before this guy was elected. It expired in January, the same month he took office. He literally isn't responsible.

mayors don’t enact tax legislation anyway, that’s the job of whatever council/police jury/etc this podunk town has. they’ll figure it out or they won’t I’m sure I won’t care either way

True enough. The Council would need to pass some sort of ordinance to put it on the ballot.
That said, the Mayor and City staff can bring ordinances and resolutions before the Council for consideration, and I would expect that to happen in this case. I would place the blame firmly on anyone who was in office prior the most recent elections and whoever is in charge of collecting revenues for the City. Those are the ones responsible.
The Mayor being posted in this thread, however, could not possibly have shared any responsibility for this in any way.

But we can make that money back. A town like Oakdale never could

Grew up in South Rapides parish and sadly have to agree with this for the most part.
Glenmora turning into it's own version of Triple D. They have Fuzzies, Claire's Corner Cafe and Caffeinated Brew & Fizz.
Claire's and Caff B&F surprisingly good.

You get what you deserve.
Trying to blame the prior administration isn’t getting that 34% back.

The median age is 43. Meaning there are a disproportionate amount of elderly people.
In a normal run of the mill city you’re looking at a median age of 33-36.
43 is exceptionally old for a city median age.

David made a huge mistake replacing Paul Abrusley as the City Clerk. They finally had a good accountant in that role, and David let him go, probably because Paul ran against him in the mayor's race. He resolved all the city's longstanding accounting problems (including many issues left over from Lisa Schaefer), and from what I understand, the auditors were pretty much thrilled with him. Everyone looked to Paul at the city. Instead, his ego got in the way, and he dismissed Paul in favor of someone who has no idea what they're doing, leaving the city's finances in disarray. It was such a foolish and naive decision to let go of the one person who understood how things worked. It numbs my brain just thinking about it. Now, you have nobody up there who has a clue what they're doing now.
