This is the fallacy that has helped get us to the point we are at. When the PRC was allowed into the US market they make crap like cheap injection molded toys with no detail and without the sprues trimmed. People ignored them because their products sucked/ Today they make iPhones and lots of other high tech goods with solid reliability records. Outside of a handful of specialized items they can make anything in mass as long as you stay on them to meet your QC requirements.

Underestimating their manufacturing prowess is quite foolish. As I mentioned before they are early '70s Japan when it comes to cars, write them off at our own peril.

Agreed, no argument there. My point is that still make a plug in EV but also equip it with an onboard genset that in the event it's not practical to stop and charge then you have the option to continue driving.

I've always thought a great combo would be a small (Yanmar or Kubota) turbo diesel instead of a gas unit.

At the end of the day, it's still built by cheap Chinese labor and will come with those known gremlins.

How is that different from the average American made vehicle?

No thanks. I've seen and heard about enough horror stories about Chinese EVs that I'll stay far away.

I think BYD sold around 400k in 2020 to 4million cars in 2024. The way they penetrated in other Asian and European markets is nothing short of remarkable. And they started off as a battery company.

It’s China. The only worse government out there is Russia. I wouldn’t drive it if it was 10k.

No it isn’t.

There is no demand nor infrastructure for it. And they’re as of yet, not the most reliable.

I can’t imagine the number of items that won’t be functioning properly a month or two after the purchase of this car.

So will last a month longer than Chevy, Ford, or Dodge transmission.

Thankfully, my F250 doesn’t have soft close doors or a remoteless infotainment system to crap out on me.

Reminder: TCL televisions fold as easy as card board. I’d love to see how this handles a crash.

Up until recently we were going all electric. This vehicle also runs off petrol. So, this type of hybrid vehicle couldn't be made.
