Hmmmm...interesting. Right now, I'm paying $225 for cable, which only includes 2 HBO channels. On top of that, paying $75.00 for internet.
Wow. I have COX as well and I thought my bill was high. We currently pay $200/mo....but that includes high speed internet, landline(which I'm about to finally drop) and cable. One dvr box, hd channels, showtime and HBO. I'm about to call them soon to see how I can get my bill cheaper as well.
Don't want to cut the cord though, we use Hulu a lot as well....but you still have to have a cable log in for many of the channels on Hulu now (as for many of the other cable channel apps on the Roku such as FX/Lifetime, etc). Plus....many of the streaming apps don't have the content right when it airs....so you have to wait to watch it.

Fire TV with Kodi and it's awesome.
I'm gonna look into this. Hell, I'm spending $2700/year just for cable, I have no problem with a chunk of money up front to remove that cost and put back into my budget.

I really need to find an alternative. I only watch like 3-5 channels consistently. Don't use DVR, so don't care about that
Just steal it.
Cord cutting threads are filled with folks stealing the programming, whether through sharing or using a VPN. I Annr still a believer in abandoning cable, but have not found a way to do so efficiently without stealing.

How would a VPN help you steal? That doesn't make sense.

Accessing material you couldn't otherwise by using a non-US IP. That's the gist of it, never looked into it much because I'm not interested

Well, I guess I should have added that it includes a land phone line bundled in. But I will cancel that, and I think that was only a few bucks a month actually.

Now, I don't consider sharing of Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime, HBO Now and MLB.TV subscriptions "mooching". That's just being smart. I don't feel bad about it, either.
That's the problem. Entitlement is bad.

quote:you CAN, but it gets complicated. you would need to run a coax from the antenna and split it several times, running the lines to each tv. depending on the legnth of the runs, you may need a small amplifier somewhere along the line. this is probably best accomplished by putting the antenna in the attic and hooking it up at the beginning of your existing cable drops. the disadvantage here is that you probably need to unplug the feed coming into your house to do that, which in turn unplugs the internet feed too. you could maybe put a splitter at the beginning of the line to connect both the feed from the pole and your new antenna...that might work, but i didn't have the patience to figure it all out, so i only have an antenna currently hooked up to the main tv.
do I need an antenna for each TV I use, or can I hook all of them to one?

what would you do if you weren't allowed to mooch/pirate TV programming in any way?
Meh this is too reductive. Mooching Game of Thrones is a lot different than mooching Agents of Shield.
And people are missing the big point about Cord Cutting, I think it has just as much to do with convenience as it does with cost. Convenience is huge because I don't want to align to any station's channel and DVR is just a sham now.

It's worth 100 bucks more a month to not deal with the hassles cord cutters deal with.
Doubtful. Or maybe hassles are different.
I dislike DVR's, having to have an app for every. single. channel. service (FXNOw, ESPNGO, HBO GO, etc., just give me one app). When I move cable is ridiculous, I'm locked into one cost and I still have to jump through hoops if I want to watch something when I want to watch it.
The only benefit to Cable is the ease of getting sports, that's about it.

I think if the average cord cutter wasn't stealing any of their content, they would probably still have cable if they could afford it.

You are stealing a service. Not sure what other shade that would be.

Same. My parents (who are both retired) have a whole lot more money than my 25-year old self so I'm not going to feel bad using their logins for everything when they don't even use them themselves. I also don't share the login for anyone else so regardless of what anyone thinks it's not being abused in any way.

Yeah i have a bundle as well. About to drop the phone because the cost is more than the bundle discount.
I see the costs I'm paying for cable as being able to save money in the long run. It's a form of entertainment for us. We stay in a lot so this saves us money in going out now. Plus my husband likes his sports. And I like having instant access to all my shows. Just too many hoops to jump through when you cut cable imo. And I hate mooching and couldn't bring myself to ask to use someone's password for a product they pay for.

I can at least appreciate that you understand the situation. It seems like most have found ways to justify it which I didn't realize and I find odd.
Down with the man!

well I would go to a bar to watch games that I can't on network tv. But my point still stands.
