Monday morning quarterbacking a horrific mass shooting?

I'm hearing more of this than I expected to. "Someone should have tackled him".....easy to say with hindsight

Why do people keep on bringing up guns with this tragedy? I would not want anyone to be packing in a bar. I believe strongly in the 2nd Amendment but guns and alcohol are not a good combination.

Haven't read in a bit but from initial accounts, he was wearing a suicide vest. You are going to bum rush a man firing a weapon and wearing a suicide vest? I call bullshite there.

I can understand the overarching point you are trying to make here, but you've earned every negative reaction you've gotten in this thread. It's easy to talk about strategy when you are safe in your home. Not so easy (as many have pointed out better than I) to go against your instincts and sacrifice yourself in a dark club when you are trying to piece together what the hell is going on.

I said the same thing today. While I would probably the first to freak or panic, with the number of people in that club, someone had to get behind him at some point and be able to tackle or hit him with something. How can he be able to walk around mowing down people like that. It was a pretty big club. Natural to think about these things.

There was about 5 shots or so in the Snapchat before I really identified it as gunfire and I knew what I was watching. Don't fault the people for not recognizing what is going on and reacting Rambo style. How many people do you think have ever heard a gun actually fired much less all of the different calibers? Some people watch too much TV.

So now I've been called a victim blamer, a "Monday morning quarterback" of a mass shooting, and other things just for suggesting that people should fight back when given the opportunity. Never change, OT.

I did take self-defense classes and have been around guns my entire life. Maybe that changes my perspective of things. Who knows. All I know is that there are ways to prevent mass shootings from escalating and one of them is for the people to attack the threat.

Well, if you bum rush him you do it knowing the odds are against you. If you force him to detonate you save some others.

Problem is you have to coordinate it and you need more counter attackers than he had bullets, so you can get him before he reloads. How are you going to get 7 or 10 or however many people to all charge when you give the signal, without him seeing and hearing you plan the counterattack? Virtually impossible. Whoever tries won't live long enough to complete the planning stage.

Flight 93 had the advantage of knowing it was a suicide mission so there was nothing to lose by fighting back. They also knew the hijackers were armed with nothing more than box cutters, and they knew the target was a major building so they could ignore any threats while they planned the counterattack. It was very impressive that they kept their cool, but a shooting rampage is a different animal.

You may very well be the brave man in the crowd that would stop the bad guy(s). If you study history you will self preservation is the norm. Brave soles are few and far between. Don't bother with unrealistic expectations of the unwashed masses.

Lemme guess.

Everybody in here is an OT baller with six OT ten side chicks and you snort an entire eight ball before going out and drinking six gallons of whiskey and then can still get your nine inch dick up.

I'm really surprised by the backlash I've received. I didn't know my views weren't common.

Active shooter training is becoming commonplace in most workplaces. I'd recommend everyone do it. A lot of iris common sense but it's about assessing the current situation and making decisions that give you the best chance of surviving. Duck and cover is not Parton the training. Obviously.

I have thought about what I would do in an active shooter situation at work. I also think about it if I'm at a public gathering and I see someone who seems out of place or "off." I want to know where the nearest exits are and if there are items nearby that I could use as a weapon if the need arose. I like to think that if my only option is to engage the shooter to save myself or others, then that's what I will do.

You shouldn't be. If you had made your basic point while acknowledging the difficulty of fighting back in the situation, you probably would have started a good discussion. Instead you decided to impersonate Marky Mark.

Awww, now you're a victim

It's easy to say you'd do something or be in a position to do something from behind a keyboard. It's another to make the huge assumption that a person would be able to do so in a chaotic situation with loud music and little lighting.

Yes, I understand why the Gay Men cowered, but, what I don't get is why didn't a couple of Bull Dykes rush the shooter and shove that gun up his arse?

Those Bull Dykes are very tough.

Is "Bull Dyke" politically correct to say, or, have I committed a faux pas?

The Bull Dykes I have met are very tough, very nasty. That I can tell you.

I did make a basic point and I got replies like this:

quote:

Good to see we have so many heroes on here that would have easily ended these killings

Kinda hard to have a discussion when people would rather call you stupid, a victim blamer, and a Monday morning quarterback over a mass shooting.

If you would like to have a rational discussion then let's go.
