The Airbus has had their share. New Airbus 300, fist passenger flight out of Denver…taxi to the runway….heard a noise under our seats. Two of us hit the call buttons. Stewardess comes backs listens and agrees with us. She calls the Captain…he comes back then listens..shakes his head “ Not supposed to sound like that.” Taxi back to gate …lost the entire hydraulic system..

They were passed by Airbus in the design of this type of jet and they cut corners, end of story.
Add to that the merger of Boeing and I forget who else caused a fundamental change in the development and construction practices of their jets.

Pretty sure the McDonnell Douglas merger was the fundamental change you reference.

Boeing is ran by accountants now, not plane designers

Yes. I just couldn't recall from the documentary.

The plane involved rolled off the assembly line and received its certification just two months ago
The below is still on going.

the FAA told pilots to limit use of an anti-ice system on the Max in dry conditions because of concern that inlets around the engines could overheat and break away, possibly striking the plane.

FAA just grounded more planes.
quote:
The Federal Aviation Administration is ordering the "temporary grounding of certain Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft," the model of Boeing plane involved in the Alaska Airlines blowout incident. The FAA said the planes must be parked until emergency inspections are performed, which will “take around four to eight hours per aircraft.” The order impacts 171 Boeing 737 Max 9 jets, the agency said.

For you older guys - back in the 70’s and 80’s DC -10’s scared the crap out of me. I’d fly on a Max before a DC-10.
Didn’t Boeing buy McDonnell-Douglas?

Boeing bought M Douglas but MD took all the executive and decision making positions. Crazy that happened to Shell Lubricants when they bought PENN Quaker State.

It’s a mixture of poor design structure and incompetent pilots not knowing what to do when shite hits the fan.
With how they keep lowering the required amount of flying hours to be able to obtain an commercial aviation license, experts are saying that we are due for another major airline catastrophe.

how does a window just pop out of a commercial jet?
FYI, it wasn't a window. It was a decommissioned door. The door is used if the passenger seating exceeds a certain amount which this plane was not. Otherwise they decommission and rig it up to look like the side of the plane and a window. When you look at the affected plane you can see the door opening.

Talk to an osprey pilot and they'll tell you differently. They love flying them. There's stories of them being shot to hell and still safely landing. The aircraft isn't a bad one, but for some reason has been vilified by the media
It had some real fricking issues when it was initially tested and deployed. Lots of dead Marines.

It had some growing pains for sure but those have been fixed. I believe it's one of the most reliable aircraft in the USMC fleet nowadays.

I think they should all be recycled into screen doors and shite. I don't care enough about wasting a little extra kerosene for that thing to exist.

Ghetto.

Not sure that’s the right word. That makes it seem like at some point there was an operable door. There was never a door there. The frame had an opening for a door, yes, but this plane left the factory with the plug there.
