The tobacco is grown from seed so small it has to be coated so they won't be lost.

Seed is coated with Ash. They Crow then in green houses now. Each family that farms it has a green house. They then plant the babies in the field.

I've heard of it. It will knock you out if you decide to man up and chew that stuff. My boss told me to chew this and "If you really want to be a man don't spit". Learned in about 5 mins that just ain't worth it.

Only perique.
The ash trick hasn’t been used for seed in a while by most. They send the seed off to have it pelletized.
I can pretty well assure you that as long as Perique is grown in rich Mississippi delta dirt (i.e. from New Orleans to Memphis) it would grow a quality Perique that you couldn’t tell the difference between.

Just ordered the Perique book. Wonder if anyone in Saint James Parish sells small amounts of pure Perique. The bigger suppliers only handle a blend. And not sure how much pure Perique there is in the blend.
The blends are very nice, but would sure like to find some 100% pure.

Perique tobacco will knock you on your butt.
For years, they made a cigarette brand, in New Orleans, known as Picayune, that was unfiltered, with Perique tobacco in the blend. Very strong.
Perique is used as a minor ingredient in many custom pipe tobacco blends, burns well with Virginia tobacco, which keeps the perique burning.

And yeah, even at 4:1, you get a heck of a pleasant buzz. Great flavor, too.

I got some seeds and grew an assload of perique in the fertile clay of north Livingston Parish. Grew fine up here. Gave most of it to a buddy of mine who smokes a pipe. He cured it and is still smoking the stash occasionally from a harvest that was 10+ years ago.
I tried it, and it was fine. But, pipe smoking isn’t my bag. Well, pipe smoking perique isn’t my bag. Get me a little rocky mountain high, and we’ll talk.

This site is where I order most of my tobacco. They have pure perique you can order by the ounce for blending yourself. Perique has a very particular flavor and there's a reason it's usually blended in small amounts with other tobaccos.
Just because mustard tastes awesome on a hot dog doesn't mean mustard by itself will taste great

Thanks for the link. Pretty sure it is the same bulk Perique that I get from my local tobacco shop that originates from Ryan's production facility in St. James Parish. An excellent product for sure - but not 100% Perique.
