Seed is coated with Ash. They Crow then in green houses now. Each family that farms it has a green house. They then plant the babies in the field.

Lol no. You’d never mistake beech nut when chewing perique.

More than one farm grows perique in st JAMES parish. I know them by families. Martins, Louques, Leblanc’s, Gravois, and Roussel.
Mark Ryan, the buyer of the perique makes a damn fine cigar. It isn’t all about the pipes anymore.

It’ll grow else where but when tested it isn’t even close to the potency as the grown ones from st JAMES. Also the classification of perique has everything to do with how it’s processed. They grow “faux perique” in Tennessee but it isn’t the same

Actually the martins are growers. My Uncle is Geno Martin. They sell to Mark Ryan. Most of the cigar shops I’ve been to around Br to N.O. all had loose perique and blended pipe perique for sale. And the shortage was started by families getting out of the business because of the excruciating work it requires to harvest. Every plant must be hand cut and hand hung. Can’t not use a regular tobacco harvester and hanger due to the brittleness of the perique leaves. I’ve been the one with the cane knife helping my uncles family harvest. It sucks. Lol. Harvest time is in the heat of the summer. I personally like to chew the perique out of the barrel after its fermented. A few families still bag some chew. Mostly the LEBLANC. Hope this helps you guys. Matherne supermarket also sells Ryan and daughter cigars that is a perique blend.
