Parents are the worst thing to happen to youth sports.

I really don’t see parents act a fool very often at all, or coaches. It is all pretty chill

I mean it’s not a good thing for the kids arm but some kids just really love baseball. Hell id have played 9 months out of the year if I could have when I was a kid.
Its easy to hate on these dads, it really is. In reality, a lot of these parents really enjoy it. Some dads love coaching. Some moms enjoy weekends spent watching their son with the company of their friends. Its a social thing and if the kid loves it, why not. Its better than the kid playing xbox all summer.
One could argue the fact that so few kids make it past hs to play ball IS justification for travel ball. Kinda sucks to stop playing something that brings you enjoyment and satisfaction when you are 18. Might as well play when you can

If you're in BR then yes it's BRSC. Kenner/NOLA (LA Fire) has a GREAT club, Mandeville (MSC), Houma (Blackhawks)...

Yup. Somebody look up the high school and D1 Top 20 baseball rosters and tell me which kids did not play travel ball.
The top 20 would likely be the same players had they not played travel ball, travel ball is just a correlation not the cause of their abilities. If your kid is not genetically gifted with high level athletic ability all the travel ball in the world is not going to change that, a fact many parents refuse to accept.

Travel ball dads are as bad as dance moms.

Let me help you out here. ODP is a joke. It is a money grab. Don't get fooled into think there is anything elite about the Louisiana ODP program.
It's that Olympic part that draws them in. Parents and players would be better off if it was done on a structure invitational basis, and I'm not talking about a tryout invitation. By the time an age group hits u13 or u14, the coaches have a pretty good idea of who the top players in the state are at any given position.
Posted on 5/1/18 at 12:56 pm to Eightballjacket
I think there should be regional invitational state teams, for us a south MS, central, and northern. Have those squads create the pool of players who are then chosen out by a tournament by tournament basis to go play other state developmental teams.
IDK, the #1 LA team in our age group is often Shreveport, and we've never even seen them (I say that implying we've seen every top team in a 100 mile radius).
My boy plays out of position since we don't have anyone else to play it...if we're on a regional team he's out wide up front. Judging him as a center mid is tough, I hope he's not the best regional center mid...just happens to be that on this team.

It was the only one of the pks I recorded.
On a cell phone...can you text/email it to me?
My son would love to see it.

ya can't knuckle a PK
I thought knuckle just meant hitting it absolutely flat (meaning reasonably aim-able) and very hard. Apparently it's the ball motion resulting from that strike, like you said, which at PK distance you don't get. Should have said drive it instead of knuckling it, because at that distance a bit of spin doesn't matter if you hit it well.

This is a very good post.
It is very very easy to hate on “travel ball” in a hypothetical internet argument, and I’ve done so many times. And in reality, the idea of burning up your weekends and your kids love of baseball is repugnant to me.
However, now that my son had been asked, by a coach I respect, to be on a select team, it will be hard to say no if the kid really wants to do it.
Easy to say no to exhorbitant costs, long travel, etc, but not to 8 tournaments spread throughout the year and him getting to be friends with his team as they grow up.

Yea, I played travel ball most of my life and it was awesome. I loved playing and I loved shooting the shite in the dugout with my friends. As bamafan said, my parents were friends with their parents as well. The issue here is simply letting the kid throw too much. I was a pitcher and never came close to having an injury. Travel ball isn't the devil.
ETA mechanics certainly play a huge role as well.

Sounds like that kid isn't being coached properly and throws too much.
26 dumbasses downvoted this and it's exactly what the problem is.

0.00% chance. It's far more likely that BRSC absorbs the Gonzales program. The head of BRSC is the same guy who consolidated all of the Nola area into the LA Fire program. I'm 100% certain he has the same design on the BR area.

I am not sure if it is LSA or the US soccer association.
There were a bunch of new rules formed in the past couple of years that came down from the top of US soccer.
I am part of a very small organization and it is hard to compete with the bigger cities because of the pool of players that they draw. I believe we had 7 travel teams this past year in all age groups. Usually our tryouts have between 15-25 kids tryout. Compare that to NO Fire and Baton Rouge, it is hard to be competitive with them. Add to the fact that most of our travel soccer players also play travel baseball.

What club? We're in the same boat. We compete well now, but unless we consolidate across age divisions we won't have the talent to compete much after U14.

Trainers are finding out that many young players are sustaining injuries that affect their careers later on by too much throwing. Their arms need a rest just like the big leagues.

Seems more common now. my buddy had to have TJ before his frosh year at UNC, and the get bone spurs removed 2 seasons into him being called up to the show. He never played in the mlb again after that surgery.

Very much so. Louisiana is FAR behind and consolidation is viewed as a necessary pathway to catching up.

Lafourche Soccer club. The last couple of years we have been having kids trickle in from Blackhawks and Thibodaux United.
