The benefits of playing travel ball 9 months a year

Buddy of mine's son, who turns 10 this summer, plays travel baseball. He has played since he was 6. Two years ago, they started kid pitch. Buddy's son has pitched for two years.
They play March - July and then Sept - December
Weekend before last, kid is pitching and his arm starts to hurt. Last week, brought the 9 year old to an ortho surgeon. Doc says something is torn (I'm not 100 percent sure of the exact details) but long story short is, doc tells my buddy to shut the kid down completely for four months, followed by two months of rehab, before the kid throws a baseball again.
Doc also said the injury was due a combination of overuse and poor mechanics.
Perhaps daddy coaches throwing kids in live pitching, at 9 years old, 9 months out of the year, isn't a good thing.
Maybe this is why LSU struggles with pitching... the kids are just freaking worn out by the time they get to college.

So what are the benefits?

I know my nephew is on a hard pitch count and he's not allowed to throw except at practice or if he's not pitching that week, he can throw a little at home.
Sounds like that kid isn't being coached properly and throws too much. Same thing happened to me when I was 12. Sucks.

I often wonder how Sandy Koufax ever made it to the Bigs.

Don’t care. It’ll pay off when he makes it to The Show

It sounds like the kid has a bright future playing baseball for BRCC, get drafted in the 82nd round by Cincinnati, and blow his arm out in his fourth year of Class A ball.

The Show doesn't want kids who have Tommy John surgery in high school

What's the point of a child playing that much baseball? He getting paid or something?

This is such a laughable idea for a kid under 16. Son, I know you are only 9 but you aren't allowed to throw a ball outside of practice for the next month.

Thos dumb bitch i work with brags on her 12 year old constantly about how many rings he has.
Hey dumb bitch- no one cares. Also, we all know half the rings are from two team tournaments. We also know your son fidnt make the top tier team because "he didnt feel well that day"
But coach daddy was an amazing player at airine high school 15 years ago, and would have won the major league world series if his coach made him work harder.

I hate to see such a promising prospect on Enbrel and norcos so early in life.

At 10 years old there are no benefits in my opinion. Both my kids have been approached about travel ball. Hell even had a coach come to my house and try and recruit us telling me how much I would be missing out on getting better and my kids need it. I played college baseball and I want nothing more than to see my kids play college ball but honestly Inwant them to be kids first and foremost. I’ll never understand the obsession with travel ball. You make it to highschool and you can play go for it you have 4 years to show out. Both my kids are the fastest in their grade so I know we have that going for them because that is the only reason I played at a very small college and didn’t start. So if my no talent arse can play, get your kids off their butts and do everything outdoors get em active and raise them fast. You can’t coach hustle and speed.

None. Adults are hell bent on ruining a kid's childhood.
