Local REC league used to be good but now is nothing but a walk fest. Most batters hardly ever see a pitch to hit. Games are boring and kids really get nothing out of it. There are basically 2 good teams in every division and the rest pretty much all suck.

I can see why parents do "tournament ball" vs. REC league. In tournament ball, the kids have to hit their way to victory vs. walking it to victory.

enjoy the Monday post from Mom's of travel ball kids, "LOVED the BALLPARK watching (insert name) do what he LOVES. #ballparkmom #supportmykid #baseballlife"

They have the justify it to themselves. I spent an afternoon watching my nephew play travel ball. There is no way I could do that shite every weekend.

Incidentally, my brother has brainwashed the kid into thinking he’s getting drafted out of high school.

The issue here is simply letting the kid throw too much.

Yep, looking back on my own childhood, I wish I had not started pitching until the mound was 60' or whatever. It seemed like everyone who waited and started pitching in high school had much better success with their arms. My arm is still shot and its from doing dumb shite on the mount when I was like 8 years old.

I don’t understand why the organizations don’t agree to take a break from tournaments during a specified rec season.
Except for $$$, that is.

customer of mine told me this morning that his 12yr old son, who has been playing competitive for the last 4-5 years (and pitching most of that time) went to an ortho last week because his elbow has been hurting. Dr last year told him to stop pitching. He took about 4 months off and decided he could try it again.

New ortho told him that if he ever wants to pitch again he will need tommy john surgery.

The kid is 12. He's a big kid and has mostly quit growing but still. He's 12.

That's why my son is playing rec and rec only for now.

Well you don't if you don't make the finals.
