the weight thing shouldn't come into play here, a lot of people have larger dna and are genetically incapable of losing weight

Honestly, the median retirement savings bother me more than anything else. The idea of someone at age 55 with only $25K put away is just

Just blow it, dude, you can't unfrick the last 30 years.

According to a new survey by GoBankingRates.com, more than half of Americans have savings account balances below $1,000.
I find this the most mind boggling.

I'm not a world class athlete, but I work out and am very fit. I don't have any type of gut at all.

I'm moderately muscular and no one that knows me would say I'm the least bit fat.

If you were 175 you'd be skinny as shite. Mr. CT is 5'11 and goes 170 and he is skinny. It is sad.

I hate seeing that savings account stat year after year. Do you even need a savings account?

Yes you do. Having readily accessible cash for emergencies is invaluable IMO.

My family could survive for 6-9 months with virtually no interruption if I lost my job today. Sure we might not go eat out on Friday nights or be able to keep the kids in their extra activities, but no one would go without.

Believing you don't need savings is a fool's idea.

After you have a decent amount in savings, then feel free to invest every bit that you can.

Going to get interesting as more of these grossly unhealthy people get on the public dole. I'll be off-grid by then.

when most people are fat as frick, people's perception becomes skewed. social conditioning in places like the south and Midwest have fatties thinking they're healthy and people at a healthy weight thinking they are skinny.

I'll talk to people in their late 30s who are on track for this. Point out that they are way behind for retirement and they pretty much respond back with "YOLO" and "I want to have fun while young."

I mean sure, but what about a balanced approach? Lol.

There are really only a few things one needs to do to significantly improve your chances of not being poor.

1. Don't have children outside of marriage.

2. Graduate high school.

3. Get a job.

4. Don't get arrested.

There are others that will help as well, but just those 4 will significantly improve your chances.

If a majority of people are overweight, shouldn't that be our new weight?

It isn't based on averages.

The only disaster the wife and I are facing since retirement, who to leave our "fortune" to. We don't have any kids.
