Its the outlandish rise in value due to govt paying people a lot of money during covid that sucks for younger folks.

Home purchases are much harder today gramps. Let’s not pretend you guys have some high moral grounds which millennials don’t have

The only way to really go after this problem is to shut down the institutional investors. They're the ones driving up housing costs with their cash offers. Also, adding millions of illegals almost instantly without sufficient housing to accommodate them threw off what supply/demand balance we had.

Also, I do make $130K now. I live in a bigger house than the original, but that's due to 26 years of rolling positive equity into new homes.

4 bds/4 ba, 2,494 sqft is pretty damn big, and it's only $340,000 in a good neighborhood.

Is it? If you ever sell you’ll just need to buy another home that has likely risen similarly in value or become a renter.

It makes your net worth number look better, but on a cash basis, I don’t see the benefit except for use in financing.

No, I'm in the market right now. 400k is balling out right now. You're just a shithead toolbag.

Yeah but your situation is much different. You had ability to build equity on a cheap house, younger gen can’t do that. You also used 20 years to get to 130, younger gen can’t do that

Yep. Thats what we did. Bought one on the edge of hood. 1950's shotgun. Roughed it for few years and sold it for solid profit. All we did was paint inside/out and have floors redone. It tested our early years marriage...thats for sure. Financially tho its what got us started so I wouldn't trade it for the world.

$340,000 for 2,500 sq ft in Kenilworth is not a house in a field with no jobs.

And that's asking price. 400k will get you a lot of houses listed at 450/500 that have been on the market a long time.

The market is ice cold right now. Motivated sellers. 400k gets you a damn nice house right now and part of the reason house prices are ridiculous is because people's perception of the market is ridiculous.

I have a friend trying to sell an extremely nice house in a very good neighborhood in a very good school district for $350k and hasn't had an offer in a month. It's a 2100 sq ft house.

In 2005 at 25, I bought a nice 3/2 in Prairieville for $137,000.

But hey, flat screen tvs are cheaper now, so young people stop your bitching.

Go to Zillow and check homes near you brother. You’re going to realize that 400k don’t get a lot

Totally agree! I own a large home and right across the street from me is a 1400sq home priced at 400k . You have got to be crazy to pay that much for a home that size but in most parts of the country now that's a bargain.
