I absolutely hate it. It does not save you money. It costs around $400 to replace your batteries when your auxiliary goes out. You don’t save 400 in gas from the engine shutting off for a few seconds here and there.
I’ve never looked on a sticker price, but how much does this feature cost? I’m guessing it’s a standard feature that we pay a fortune for having it in our vehicle, AND when it goes out. Why do they think this is a money saver?
I have a jeep gladiator and it’s a common problem for the wrangler and gladiator for them to go out

I never realized until recently most need an EFB battery which costs more like you said.

I was able to shim a small piece of paper into the side of the button and permanently disable it.

It’s completely stupid. I’m not saying it isn’t helpful on some level (what that is I have no idea), but on the surface it seems useless and actually worse for the car. But I’m no mechanic.

This is a great example of “feel-good” environmentalism that actually doesn’t help anything

I can turn mine off too, but will the auxiliary battery die if you don’t use it?

Only for that session. You will have to press the button every time you start the car.

It's an expensive way to game the mileage standards. And it does make your vehicle less reliable. You will burn through alternators more quickly.

In the spirit of the “tell me something that should be common knowledge but isn’t thread”, for a long time I thought that there were cars were dying at intersections when I would hear them.

Actually, that probably is common knowledge and I was just an idiot for a while.

That just sounds unsafe, there are times when you need to punch it to avoid an accident

It was on a used King Ranch F150 I bought. There is a small wire near the battery and you just slightly pull the connection apart and it disables it. No light comes on. No issue. Sales lady had a tech do it for me and show me where it was.
You can order a new truck and spec it without that. Costs $50 I think. Or did then.

It’s not about saving money, it’s to fake the new absurd fuel economy standards set by out of touch lawmakers. Same reason they are removing spare tires and switching to turbos in cars.

It’s for getting a number on an EPA city loop. That’s all. .gov is all this is about.

It’s on my new Tundra, and I hate that mandate in other cars. In the Tundra you can press a button to manually cut it off.

What I love, if it’s “on” you have to press the breaks really hard to have it engage. So, if I don’t turn it off, and if I break normally, it’s like it doesn’t exist!

Also, you can disable that permanently most of the time.
