Amen! The luggage logistics and the security configurations at the current airport are shitty. And you are correct, the airlines wanted this to happen for many reason.
It's a goofy rather awkward set up, but have you really ever spent a whole lot more time either getting through security or getting your bags at MSY than you have at any other airports?

I’m talking about the luggage movements behind the scenes. Heard several times that the set up is inefficient and long outdated.
Having a central security check point just makes more sense for how they can staff and handle crowds at different times.
Also the new airport is going to have a much much better restaurant/bar/ retail selection

But if it's effectually not noticeable...

Same here.
For the record, I'm not completely opposed to the idea of the new facility, although some of the logistical decisions there are certainly head-scratchers.

This airport is in Kenner and I can’t recall a time ever of the airport flooding.
Now if a Katrina ever came with the right angle I guess the grounds could be at risk, but I bet the airport itself will never flood

Sounds like an unwavering pillar and beacon in the field of technical studies and engineering.
Why do we care what an english professor has to say about something technical?

Yep. The damn access road situation and timing blows my mind. I guess that's all on La DOTD though.

The main reason that it has pushed a little from the original date is due to a design change in gates because of airlines wanting to be able to bring in more larger planes

I don't think they were in on the call of where to locate this new terminal vis a vis the existing roadway infrastructure in place. Not to mention, existing parking, rental cars, etc.

I wait longer for my bag at NOLA than pretty much any other airport.
Also, Southwest doesn't have express bag drop at NOLA, supposedly because of all of the baggage movement issues.

What's this guys problem with airports?

If true, then most major metropolitan centers around the world are fricked. We saw for Sandy how vulnerable NYC is. Do we stop building and developing there, too?

They were in on the call. Jindal didn't want / didn't have the money to pay for the new I-10 interchange. God forbid we actually borrowed some money, or slapped a toll on it, to pay for it.

I'd be curious to see actual stats on this because I've never noticed an effective difference really.
Sometimes they seem to come out real quick, sometimes they seem to take some time. Pretty much no difference than anywhere else I fly into, by my perception.

we are seriously not comparing Sandy (a once in a century thing) to NOLA who gets them every decade

The new airport is a colossal waste because N.O. politicians will get half the money.

He needs to keep quiet about rising sea levels along with other stuff that he knows nothing about, like airports.

If I understand correctly the article is about water levels rising. I cited Sandy as just an example of how other major metropolitan areas are just as vulnerable as New Orleans to sea levels rising.
