That same $$$ invested in a retirement account over the same period would make a big fricking difference

Yeah but at least you got sex out of it

We live just inside of the city limits but the end of our street is St George.

I wonder what her motivation is to be so opposed to St George?

It’s going to be difficult to sell your house when there are better options literally right down the street?

Seems like it’s a lot of older folks who are susceptible to fear mongering and don’t have school aged kids. I think the vote could be close.

You would have anyway. Separate BR by color.

This is the only demographic that scares me. There are a lot of old dipshits who believe everything that they see on WBRZ or read in The Advocate since nobody else actually reads that shite.

It's a fact that the formation of a new city literally has zero legal basis in forming a new school district. It does nothing to help that happen. The two things are completely separate.

You'll hear SG organizers claim that they were told they had to form their own city in order to get a school district. The only people who said that are black caucus legislators who opposed it. They were ignorant of the fact that Louisiana no longer falls under deseg laws that Zachary and Central had to deal with. Ask yourself how good of an idea is it to get legal advice from Sharon Weston Broom and Pat Smith about SG? That's what you're doing if you buy that line.

I don't really have a dog in the fight, but would hate to see people base one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives on the idea that SG is going to turn into some great school district. It most likely won't. Certainly not in the next 10 years.

Move out here to Central.

A lot of people do not want to move to Central or Zachary due to where it is located.

Yes, this is a huge first step on working toward having an area with its own school district. It would make the argument easier than just asking for an area that is not a city to start the process of becoming it own school district.

It will be years down the road if it happens. If successful this could help stop future middle class families from leaving the parish.

If you drive around areas that border EBRP in Ascension and Livingston it is booming with shopping centers and businesses that cater to families. That is tax dollars leaving our parish as once the people get home from work they do not have to come back into EBRP to shop or eat out.

Similarly ignorant people are still in the Legislature. Also, as other posts have indicated, the reasons for a city have expanded since the effort to get the vote began. Now, it is about more than just schools.

We moved out here to Houston after the first signature drive got undercut by Kip's cronies and the RoV games.
I've been watching this very closely. All my family is in the StG area. I don't want to move back to BR, but I would move back to St. George when they set up schools. ISD works extremely well over here in Southeast Houston.

Young families will continue to jump ship to better places as long as EBRPSS is ruining the St. George area.

Any of the older folks that are buying what the Advocate is selling need to realize this. They will be in a rapidly aging area as more and more people with kids move to acceptable school districts. I say this as if it hasn't already been happening for years.
