Flexible pay
quote:

Quality journalism takes a financial commitment. We can no longer provide our content online for free to non-subscribers of our products. So, starting today, we are implementing a flexible meter that will limit the number of stories that can be read on theadvocate.com for free. If you are a subscriber, rest easy. You will continue to have unlimited access to theadvocate.com digital products, including our e-edition. In fact, we’ve taken steps to ensure faster page-load times.

So if you pay, do they eliminate all the annoying ads?

They've have exponentially more readers if they'd just did this and sprinkle a few quality ads here and there.

Just open the webpage in a private tab every time. Works for every other newspaper website except WSJ.

Not sure about the Advocate, but with a lot of news sites if you delete the cookies/browsing history it resets and you can continue to receive free articles

I can get 99% the newspapers websites free (including ads) by using a certain kind of browser on my phone.

I was just reading The Advocate 5 minutes ago.

I’ll continue to go to NOLA.com. Their outsider perspective on the city really makes you understand local issues.

ETA: the party bus article author used the word “cooler” instead of icechest.

Never looked at it when it was free, so it wont effect me now that they want you to pay.

Cancelled my sub years ago and they still deliver daily. I have called several times to let them know and they still deliver.

I only pay for the actual paper, that is delivered to my home, so I can eat boiled seafood on it. And to read the sports section. The rest of the Advocate is a dumpster fire. No way I’d pay for an online subscription.
