I'm sure the majority of people rounded up where in some way or form involved in resisting the American invasion. But I bet a lot of the "suspected terrorists" had nothing to do with al qaeda or any other terrorist organization

I would say that the majority weren’t “terrorists.” I was there rounding them up. If we hit a house in the middle of the night looking for one guy then every military age male in the house got rounded up and sent to places like Abu Ghraib

For anyone who has romanticised AG as the bad ole Americans, read up on the April 05 attack. One day I have a hell of a book in me, just gotta wait for about 20 more years, lol.
I am not going to go into specifics, but there is a ton of bullshite in this thread, sprinkled with some legit nuggets of truth.

Edit: I will say this, had we not known about the April 05 attack before hand, we would have gotten throttled.
I will never understand why that attack does not get more attention. The intelligence gathered beforehand was instrumental in saving countless lives and one of my greatest accomplishments.

What does anything that you said have to do with the rampant torture and abuse that went on at AG? It sounds like you are trying to condone or pooh-pooh what happened.
It shouldn't matter that AG was located on Iraqi soil and the majority of people there were Iraqi's no more guilty of anything than defending their own land. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.

It was an interesting time, for sure. The scandal made collections much more difficult, and is rightfully a black eye on our Military. It was just blown way out of proportion.
