You don't think standing in the batter's box with all eyes on you helps in the future with confidence and the ability to perform under pressure or putting yourself out there in front of large groups? You don't think it teaches lessons about letting your teammates down, or how to deal with others around you being the weak link for a period of time?

It works both ways , how does having your father berate you to tears about missing that fly ball, or have your buddies tease you about your drunk mom who passed out after yelling at the umps (and everybody else) all day, work on building confidence?

As I said earlier , I think organized sports play a valuable role in the formation of children, it just goes too far too often, especially in baseball

Its like anything else - the general idea is that it is either very good for kids or very bad for kids - too much of an opinion all the way in one direction or another. My thought is - who am I to say what is good for a group of kids other than its good to give them proper nutrition, shelter and clothing.
actually most if the parents I know don't think anything if it? You play ball from now till June, it is over and then you go on vacation, swim fish and visit grandma in the Summer. If you are still interested when school rolls around you can play school ball. It ain't really a big deal.

Living thru your kid? What the hell? 99 percent of parents are damn near asleep in the stands. no different than every other youth sport

Too far too often?

How many times have you witnessed your scenarios? I have never seen either.

I've actually seen this a few times and it's sad and breaks my heart.

To be fair, your group is pretty awesome and the results of the team doesn't affect how people treat each other, the umps or the other team's parents.

Most teams don't play "year round".
My sons team took off from July-December so the kids can play football is they chose to.
Most also played Rec basketball.
Practice twice a week and tournaments every other week.
And not all parents live through their kids, maybe they just enjoy watching them play???
He loves competition and loves the game, but before every season starts I make sure to ask him if he still enjoys it.

I just enjoyed taking my boys out to the park and scouting out soccer moms.

Yeah we have something special that a lot of people envy and try to imitate. I've seen some pretty disgusting shite take place over the past 5 years. We are extremely lucky to have what we have.

All about the parents. Plus, the traits they give to the kids.

jk, I hated the parents too. Thank God my kid quit softball and switched to soccer. The parents there are way better.

Kyle Peterson tweeted this pic out last week. It shouldn't have to be posted but this is honestly how some of these yahoo parents think.

This is not to you, specifically. I just clicked on your post to throw this out there.

You got a love those World Series at Gulf Shores and Orange Beach marketed by the travel teams with " we will play a weeklong World Series in Orange Beach this year so you can also vacation with the family at the same time."

School based seasonal sports is the way to go.

If your kid is good enough, people will know it.

Of course, non athletic kids' parents looking for cheap babysitting. Just call it what it is and stop being a bitch. Life is tough.
