It’s the equivalent of hanging out on a sandbar as a tsunami rolls in. Accompanied by 150 mph winds.

It's just a bunch of angry skanks at Winn-Dixie stocking up for the storm.

That description is offensive. Some may not be angry.

Surely the island will still be there right?

It might capsize. It’s been worried about before.

For reference

“We stayed for every hurricane”

You haven’t ever stayed through a Cat 4/5 that made an almost direct landfall. Grand Isle is right at the point of max surge on the eastern side of the eye.

Situations like this always make me think of the Jerry Clower joke about the man who refused to leave his home amid a flood despite two boats and a helicopter offering aid prior to his house being submerged.

After getting to heaven, he asked God “why didn’t you help me? I told people you would take care of me!”

God responded: “I sent you two boats and a helicopter!”

It might not be recognizable but the land will probably be there (mostly). Well, at least the part that doesn’t capsize…

There's not going to be anything left to cling to. Hopefully they'll find their bodies at some point, to give their families closure. There's a strong possibility that they don't find any of them.

Hearing the stories of my friends and coworkers that stayed behind in Katrina made me a believer. You can't beat the storm.
