Every time I see a new “Defender” it lets me know they have more dollars than sense.

Just put my name on the list for the Overtrail+. 20 people ahead of me, most are for premium and luxury trims. No dealer markup either.

Sweet. I’m holding out to see if the 25 models offer a version with the third row, lockers and hybrid together. Really wish they would just make the Overtrail with a third row option.

Still hearing Q1 next year. Latest rumor is the Overtrail+ starts at $85k. Ouch.

People were willing to pay top dollar and overlook lack of standard equipment on Tacoma/4Runner/Tundra/Sequoia because the V6 and V8 can reliably get you 250,000 miles or more.

Hopefully the new turbo motors prove the same.

They won't be.

There are no free lunches. It's the same manufacturer. With the same standards. But there's a smaller motor being asked to do much more, with turbochargers added on. I know why they're doing it (fed mandates for CAFE/emissions). But this is very far from the "unstressed" V6/V8s that Toyota has made their reputation on.

I drove one of these in college...the boxy-ness is what made it awesome. Mine was red, and I would refer to it as "the brick"

There’s 20 people ahead of me on the list at my dealer, but he told me most are for Premium and Luxury. I think I’m 2 or 3 for the Overtrail. He did confirm no markup, but price tbd.

Some people are smart: $30k SUV with $500 rooftop cargo or $70k SUV

And the really smart ones buy a minivan since that’s what they need

Will have problems shedding rocks like other semi vertical windshield vehicles.

Too dumb or too poor?

The “family cars” you are talking about will cost 30-100% more than the vehicles you posted.

Unless they are going to strip it down a ton there is little hope it comes in below that.

There’s no way in hell the new US Landcruiser starts anywhere close to 100k assuming it’s prado/gx based.

This is what you get when you sell the Bronco. Now everything will look like an old Jeep Cherokee.

Or they’re very smart and buy enough car for what they need 90% of the time and supplement with a roof box when necessary the other 10% of the time.

Base Land Cruiser is supposed to start in the mid 50's. Probably gets to 70k or so fully loaded.

The new GX is the best-looking SUV I’ve seen in a very long time. If it has the bulletproof reliability of the older ones , it’ll be on my list. Would consider 2nd or 3rd model year.

Exactly, I was going to say very similar to a '95 Land Cruiser.
