All the ones i worked with were only allowed 6 or 7 years with their foot on the switch.

That was the deal.

Let me tell you about my psychiatrist. He charges minimal fees and keeps costs down by sharing the secretary with a dentist, sometimes answering the phone himself and taking the subway to work. Though he has a hot trophy wife, she still works as a school teacher. He also has a nutty, forgetful next door neighbor named Howard who somehow got a job as an airline pilot.

Radiologists and anesthesiologists have it made. Overpaid with no stress. Nobody plays more golf than them (except maybe dentists)

Salaries have increased adjusting for inflation over the past 10 years on everything I've seen.

That's really interesting considering reimbursement has decreased significantly, like the other guy said. Once the ACA went into affect, reimbursement on my most common procedures dropped 50%. When you're only getting paid $300 on a 60 minute procedure, and you need to make $1000 per day just to cover overhead, you don't make much. With turnover of the room, 5 cases is at least 10 hours of just operating. There are many variables that affect this, some cases are longer or shorter and some pay more or less. And these are my numbers, the other group in town needs to make $2000 a day to cover overhead.

When I got out, I was in the ER frequently. Would stop by and just hang out with the ER docs so they would call me more often.

And to the robotic surgery: do you believe robots are actually doing the surgery? Because they are not. It's robotic arms and equipment, still driven by a surgeon. It's like expensive laparoscopic surgery. And putting in sutures is the most basic thing a surgeon does. Hell, it's how we would test lower level residents on their operating ability before they get to do more. Also, every body is different, so it's not a program that can be standardized.

That pediatric figure is way to low. Little girl had RSV in early March and was hospitalized for a few days. It was $289 each time he walked in the door. I just about crapped my pants when I opened that bill.

I wonder how much the orthopedics number is inflated due to professional sports?

Doc I knew who worked on Saints players was living more than comfortably.

I'm no physician but I work very closely with them in my profession. Believe me, it's not nearly as lucrative as it was 10 years ago. It still is for some select specialties, but overall no. Even in lucrative ones, it can take a long time to get established in a market and accepted by the medical community for consults, etc. And the malpractice and liability insurance can be outrageously expensive.

Not just professional sports. There's a lot of "hold my beer and watch this" in that group. There are a lot of sports injuries of the non-professional type too. In south Louisiana, there's a lot of oil field injuries, which are all paying (workers comp).

Do you know any or follow them around on a day to day basis?I see them on almost a daily basis. I don't know what they're getting paid, but they certainly don't look free of stress to me. Some days can be very stressful, especially for interventional radiologists performing emergency procedures and everything is riding on that catheter being manipulated properly.
