i'm not saying doctors are going to go extinct, but they're going to be more of a supplement as opposed to the driver

we're talking about decades of exponentially developing technology. think about what technology was like in 1996. that's 20 years

hell, if we get neural networks mapped out with the ability to input into a computer, removing patient subjectivity alone is massive

Physicians are being targeted from numerous positions - mid-levels that want increasing autonomy and will accept less money; heuristic AI systems that can diagnose far more quickly and efficiently than a physician, and can access 100% of all medical knowledge at all times, and can seamlessly implement new data into novel medical contexts; and the inevitably of a single payer system, which will mean that physicians will subsist monetarily on medicaid and medicare payments.

You know doctors fix shite too right?

They can barely get a robot to open a door without falling over . They aren't taking out complex pancreatic or brain masses any time soon.

I think they have a long way to go in medicine. Most of what I've experienced has been awful.

Mammography uses computer aided detection and radiologists largely ignore it.

I'm not anti-tech and welcome any innovation.

For now. We already have functional surgical robots that can autonomously apply sutures.

As AI systems and computer vision technologies advance, you'll see such systems gradually take over responsibility for most surgeries.

They don't list neurosurgery or cardio thoracic because they'd break the scale.

Neurosurgeons yes. Cardio thoracic surgeons don't make near as much as they did in the 80s since the widespread adoption of the stent.

Physician salaries across the board are down. There's no real turn around in sight either. Obviously you can still make a good living, but it's getting harder to justify the commitment.

The fiancée and I are both residents and will be 30 before either of us makes a decent wage and can live the life most of our friends starting living 7-8 years ago. It is not fun to just he starting your life at 30 knowing that the reward is not nearly what it used to be

CT surgery still does really well. There are still A LOT of people with 3 vessel disease.

And I don't want to sound like tech isn't really helpful in medicine... I wouldn't let a neurosurgeon take out my brain mass without diffusion tensor imaging, wouldn't let an orthopod repair my complex pelvic fracture without 3D reconstructions, etc. But these are all complimentary roles.

Physicians like to say this but it's really not true.

I mean the data suggests that he is correct, but believe what you want.

Show it to me.

Salaries have increased adjusting for inflation over the past 10 years on everything I've seen.

There are a lot of reasons being a physician sucks today compared to the past but compensation isn't one.

You wouldn't know a hymen from a hysterectomy. You don't know the first thing about how much it sucks to be a physician.

Radiologists have the shortest careers due to exposure.
But they slay the bank while at the plate, for sure.

Anethesiologists taking it in the arse with highest mal prac policies...

Nope. You actually see more old as dirt radiologists than any other specialty.

my dad had hip surgery a few weeks back and while waiting to go in the OR i saw an emergency situation. the nurse came in freaking out and had to get the anesthesiologist back in the OR to stabilize a patient
