I liked girls and women better before they got muscled up. They just seemed more feminine.

shite, some moms locked kids out of the house for the day.

That was me, born in 77.

We had a patch of woods about 1/2 mile wide between 2 subdivisions we cut trails with cane knives all through it. There was a pipeline that ran down the middle with a ditch off to one side that we caught crawfish in. Had a rope swing that made you a man.
One of our girl classmates told us her mom sunbathed nude on their roof but it was okay because no one could see because their house backed up to the woods, that weekend we cut a trail in the woods to get to behind her house and got to see that bush a couple times.

We had a park with a merry go round that I got flung off of way to many times. Got my first stinky finger in that park.

We had a mixed neighborhood growing up, about 60% white, 20% black, 10% down the bayou Indians and 10% Vietnamese. We had football games between all the different races. We wore out bicycles, basketballs, football and skate boards. We swam in the bayou in our drawers. Good times growing up back in the late 80s early 90s.

“They literally had no idea where I was for like 10-12 hours a day in the summer”

In the summer my dad would drop my brother and I off on the back part of barksdale… the reservation … all lakes… woods etc… we lived off base….

We would look at our watches and ask him to pick us up in three days… we were 13-14 ish.. had fishing poles.. pocket knives .. sterno … cambells soup … plastic tarp.. blanket and cans of tuna if the fishing was bad… life was good:)

They used to be everywhere though.

I remember my dad getting a Motorola bag phone for my mom to keep in her car when she was going to night classes. Didn't want her using pay phones at night by herself. I remember the walls lined with them in basic training, whole platoon lined up to make our mandatory call home to family

Walked through my old high school campus the other weekend. There used to be a pay phone in the middle of it. I dont know why I expected it to be there, but it was weird that it wasnt.

I guess every generation looks to their youth as the "best times", but I truly believe if you were a kid in the 80's you grew up in the best of times. I'll defend that to my death.

Technology and kick arse video games killed the real fun part of being a kid.

We set up boxes on sidewalks and driveways. Didn't matter if you cleared, you were still going to crash.

At least once a week I would come home bloodied and mom would just shake her head.

"I’m sure everyone says this from their childhood but the 80s had it all.

So carefree. The last true decade before technology took over"
...... correct. Everybody will say there childhood years were the best, but, if you are talking about carefree, the seventies were great. By the way, there is a huge difference between the early 80s and the late 80s. The end of the 80's welcomes Aids, gross cynicism, and the beginning of the media control.

The thing is we had technology and video games, we had an Intellivision, then NES, Genesis, etc. One of the first families in our subdivision to have a computer. We simply had more options to be outside playing, living on the edge of city limits we had miles of undeveloped land to use as we saw fit, almost no adult supervision to get in the way as long as we were home in time for dinner.

One day we’ll look at pictures of people using ATMs the same way as we do pay phones.

Same. So crazy now as a parent to see how dangerous things seem today by comparison.

Yep. I don't let my kids do half the stuff I used to back then - its because of the way society and things are now.

I was 9 in 1980. What a great time to grow up.

The Gen Xers had the best of it all- the opportunity to be largely independent throughout the day up until the lights came on.

Then we learned the internet and know that sound of dial up.

We are the most well rounded of the generations.

You stuck your finger up your arse in the park?

That type of behavior would likely wind up with you being put on a list these days.

I guess you missed the part where I said the companies kept the Time Saver name on them.

I'll call Mr. Monty and let him know you know more about the company he owned than he does.
