I'm not a CPA but that's not how it works exactly. Sure he has "business" expenses for a job he enjoys.
Don't get me wrong I'm sure he goes well into the Gray area of the tax codes. But generally speaking people don't get to right off things that involve so much personal time.
You can't live in a house full time and also say its a "business" expense. You only get partial credit for stuff like that.
Guys like Dan usually fall extremely hard at some point too. I'm sure he is generally fine financially, but they often go bigger and bigger and they usually swing and miss at some point which causes an almost unrecoverable fall. He may very well recover, but many don't.

I agree with that certainly, but just because there are fewer taxes doesn't mean its free. Its plenty possible to spend your way into bankruptcy on 100% expenses.
He may enjoy the hell out of it along the way though.
