This truly is God's country. There are many issues but dammit the people here overwhelmingly are incredible. They're kind, courteous, sometimes a little feisty, but passionate and caring individuals. I was born in the northern reaches of this great land but now I live about as far south as south goes. I've been getting lectured all day by my Yankee family from their bubble but I feel bad that they feel so encumbered by so many of life's miseries when I feel like I'm living the dream down in God's country.

I mean, I love Texas and the South but you're fooling yourself if you can't see we have our own set of issues just as much as anywhere.

I said we have issues. But I've lived other places this board often sings the praises of an honestly it's what you make of it. I just have more to make of life down here. I don't feel held down by anything. I get to do all of the activities I love with the people I love doing them with basically at will. Hiking, Fishing, Sports, Great restaurants, scenic cities. I see people complain about their life and I just feel thankful that I'm able to make the most out of mine.

I said this in the other thread earlier today, but my experience of growing up in the south and living in a couple different regions of the country really shed a light on how sheltered and segregated people (mainly in the Midwest imo) from other places grew up. Then they like to point and laugh at the south and lump us all in as racists when hardly any of them actually grew up interacting with people of different races until they went to college or started in the workforce. I chuckle Everytime at that notion.

Of course we have our problems here in the south (imo the biggest two are health and education), but there are problems everywhere in this country. The problems that we face today as a society would have been considered laughable by anyone able to time travel from more than 100 years in the past.

If you’re happy where you live, that’s all that matters. But don’t think the south is the only place with great people. And if you think your Yankee family are the only ones living in a bubble, then you’re mistaken. People all over the world live in a bubble.

East Texas is the south, west Texas is the west.
