It's a rare condition in this day and age to read any good news on the newspaper page

So far it’s lived up to expectations and feels like it disappears on the wrist. The quick change system is very cool, but no simpler than the generic “slide bolt” style quick change pins on many straps. However, the SmartLinks are really freaking cool and uncomplicated. I was able to adjust the bracelet to perfectly fit my wrist in no time, with no effort, tools, or fear of losing a micro screw or pin. I’m surprised more watchmakers haven’t tried to implement something as simple and intuitive.

I have never owned a Cartier but have spent a lot of time at the Cartier counter with my wife. I was aware of the quick change bracelet/strap solution and the SmartLinks system but seeing it demonstrated allowed me to see the brilliance. While she doesn't own one when she saw the IWC EasX-CHANGE system and their new bracelet on the fly adjustment she grabbed a Mark XX and ordered 3 or 4 of the straps. She loves being able to quickly change them without fear of scratching the lugs and not having to bother me.

This is a medium model and I’m not sure whether I would like this or the large. On one hand, this size feels great and a I feel Cartier should be small and dressy. However, I’m used to the presence of 39-42mm sport watches and this is noticeably smaller than I was expecting (the straight on wrist shot above definitely skews the scale up).

The SdeC is less dressy than a lot of the other tanks but I think the medium looks perfect on your wrist. The large would look more sporty but the medium looks more dressy.

Appreciate the input. Smaller and dressy is probably the way to go, I’m already covered on sporty.

Will still try to do my due diligence and try out the large at some point.

Pictures don’t do Rootbeer the justice it deserves. It’s incredible in person.

Currently “on the list” for watches for my wife. Mint green DJ 36 in various configs (besides smooth jubilee) and 36 Candy Pink OP are the top choices but I’m willing to listen to anything offered. I’ve being seeing significantly more inventory at the ADs including some really cool GMTs. Hopefully something will materialize soon

we lead different lives, obtuse1 and i

a new watch is typically a months-long affair with great teeth gnashing and fear of buyer's remorse.

obtuse's wife walks into a watch shop and leaves with a sweet IWC

Not sure if it's been discussed already, but you see the new steel 222 that Vacheron came out with?

Really like VC. Very well made.

Pulled the trigger last week on the Railmaster. Love the brushed dial, all-brushed case and bracelet. Loaded with top specs. The 40mm case is my sweet spot and gives this watch the perfect combination of vintage and modern. The vintage-colored indices aren’t for everyone, but I really like it, especially on a watch drawing from its 50s roots. Very happy with the decision.

Interesting you post this. I’ve been looking for a root beer diver, and I really like the Bulova Devil Diver GMT. I have the 44mm Devil Diver and really like the look and fit, due to the short lug-to-lug. I imagine the 41mm on the GMT would be perfect. It also runs on the Miyota 9075 true GMT movement, which sweeps 8 ticks per second.

Panerai 111

A brown dial Vacheon 4500v. You don't see many of those, and the only one of the 3rd gen Overseas that trades above retail, partly because it was discontinued. Typical don't know what you have until it's gone mentality the watch community displays all the time.

The Railmaster is a cool watch.

BP has to quit posting that Rootbeer. It is a watch I have always been able to overlook or dismiss because TT is not really my thing but JFC that watch is gorgeous. I am trying to do the Jimmy Carter thing and keep the lust in my heart.

Not sure how many White Lotus fans are in the TGIF watch thread, but the costume designer for this show does a great job pairing watches and characters, and Season 3 is keeping it rolling.

Mine is an H series so 2005. The first year of the sandwich dial for the 111, it was also the return of the brushed CG like the pre-Vendome models and dropped the repeating Panerai on the movement bridges for Cotes de Geneve.
