I’ve been tracking the blue faced milgauss and it looks like none are changing hands…they just don’t seem to ever leave the sites. $19k for a ‘new’, unworn example would be $5-6k over market…and those aren’t moving either. Just not a popular piece from the brand. They seem a little ‘too much’ with green crystal, bright blue face, and lightning bolt second hand. I’m looking at it for an 18 yr old though…so it seems to fit.

This all so weird to me hearing about secondary markets for new Rolex. When I bought my Milgauss, black not z blue, I just walked into Wempe on 5th avenue and asked if they had one. He called down to the basement and he happened to get one in that afternoon that wasn’t spoken for. I bought it for MSRP.

This has been a thing for a long time, but it was mostly DateJusts, ladies' models and whatnot (secondary market for new Rolex that is)...just started getting crazy around 2019, and then out the stratosphere Q3 2020. Continued on and upward trajectory for a good long while, but has been settling progressively downward, but as with most things, has not gotten back to pre 2020 levels.
Hodinkee and celebrity collectors/accumulators (mass FOMO) chasing steel sports models played a big part pre-Covid, and plentiful dollars chasing a relatively scarce commodity during that strange and dark period created the new market parameters.
Even holding hot models and still being able to get my hands on pretty much what I've asked for (except Panda SS Daytona), I have much dislike for the market and buying process we are stuck with, but the fact that I'm getting cold calls monthly from the AD down the street from me tells me things are moving back in what I think is the right direction. I think softening in the far east markets has a ton to do with this.

I also think there are new market dynamics with Rolex now allowing its AD’s to buy up preowned, service them and sell on display.
A couple of weeks ago, I was in Birmingham in Bromberg’s on Cahaba Rd and I think they had more CPO’s on display than new.
I can’t remember that in years past.

Seems like that would drive the demand and prices down for the new market.

Laurent Ferrier Traveler is amazing piece that wears much better than it looks (and I think it looks fantastic). I had several of them and they are just about perfect. The galet case is very different in hand than in pictures. LF is my version of your Panerai.
PP Nautilus wears really well but you will likely get a scratch on the polished link and it will be the only thing you see. I scratched the bevel on my PP Nautilus Chrono and it was gone for 6 months getting buffed out.
Sky Dweller is amazing movement, but it wears huge and it's very heavy and the bezel will eat your shirt cuffs. But I enjoyed mine.
Have you thought about the Journe Octa for the annual calendar? The Octa Calendrier is a classic Journe piece. I had a 38mm CS with an embossed gold dial that was amazing on the wrist. I also had a 40mm CO that was a little chunky but the remontoire was pretty cool. The Journe red gold movements are pretty special.
I sold off most of my collection because I kind of got over the watch thing, and the Apple Watch was too convenient, but knowing your enthusiasm and expertise, I'd encourage you to spend some time with a Gronefeld 1941 remontoire. The remontoire is a very cool and playful complication and the Gronefeld execution is perfect.

What are some of the key other watches in your collection that you are building off of? I know you have a lot… so just big ticket items.

I think you should forget trying to get multiple watches to cover a few different niches, and just go all in on trying to get Breguet no.160 to check all the boxes.

I’ll start things off this Friday a.m. SNA411 Flightmaster. Glad I got mine when I did seeing where prices have gone for this model.

Screwed up my rotation by wearing the same watch several days last week so I am wearing another Panerai this Friday.
Radiomir PAM288 on stingray with just the pearls polished
It has been a long time since I have actively been on the hunt for a watch. I imagine it feels a tiny bit like a 7 year-sober junkie sitting on the edge of the bed probing for a vein.

Late 50s Tissot Auto, 36mm
I adore this watch. I buy and sell vintage watches, and I know I need to sell this one for the balance sheet, but I love it too much to let it go.
edit: dammit. I dont know whats going wrong. One sec.
edit 2: it's fricked, but visible.

Marathon mini sar per usual
I wore this one for ~ 10 years continuously (literally only removed to adjust) , so hopefully it'll be 10 more years before it needs to come off again.

Tay Tay beating the hell out of the watch thread.
Anyone planning to drop the $9k on a B-ling Saints watch?
The black dial on the Saints version is rather bland but teams like the Dolphins, Vikings, Broncos, Jets and Eagles have much more interesting dial colors.
