Please pass and make your way to Louisiana. Just as dangerous as drunk driving, imo.

Clever billboards are distracting too

If you can't text and drive, you shouldn't be able to drive.

More, imho. Most drunks are at least looking at the road.

Definitely more dangerous than drunk driving. Never came close to wrecking while I was drunk. Several close calls while texting or looking at my phone

It can't break encryption and pass codes for Apple.
And once it gets to the Court system, it will require a search warrant to use which will ensure it will not be utilized other than fatalities and serious injury crashes.

I like the sentiment. I absolute hate texting drivers. I make it a point to lay on the horn as I pass one on the interstate.
My question is, couldn't a simple inquiry to the cell company for time stamp records do the same thing? It seems pretty useless IMO. I think the focus should be much tougher penalties for offenders rather than tracking technologies.

When they made texting and driving illegal the rate of accidents associated with texting went up if I remember correctly. Instead of having your phone up where you can see the road now people trying to hide it and lose view of the road.

Another problem is the Time Stamp.
Very few times do you have proof what the exact time of a crash is.
How do you prove if a series of texts were minutes after a crash as opposed to minutes before?

The textalyzer looks like huge waste of money. And access to cell phones are already available through search warrants.
Also I doubt it will be able to test for Facebook and other social media platform use.

That's a good point. I would think this "app" or technology would face the same challenge. Maybe I'm missing something here, but it seems like this supposed technology expidites getting a time stamp, but doesn't do anything to match that to the time of the accident. (Which it couldn't really do unless it was tracking you)
I think some cars (maybe all new ones?) do have "black boxes" though, so I'd think getting the accident timing from that would be a possibility; if not now, sometime in the near future.

Phone functionality has also exponentially increased. Believe it or not there are idiots who feel the need to check Facebook while driving. Or tigerdroppings...

That was really clever
I bet you smiled to yourself posting it.

Just seems like a waste of taxpayer money to me.
Once this goes to trial, a search warrant will be required. And once a search warrant is required the "Textalyzer" is kinda pointless to buy. (There is better equipment that performs more features.)

Yep, laws need to be created/strengthened to discourage drunk and distracted driving.

I've worked 3 wrecks where we knew for sure people got killed b/c someone was texting, one the texter was killed. The other 2, which is way worse to me at least, were the people the person texting hit that were killed.
Eta: on the first one, passenger who survived admitted driver who got killed was trying to read a text when swerved over in front of 18 wheeler, he then over corrected and hit a tree on driver side.

THIS. Are they planning on holding a gun to your head to make you unlock your phone?
Can they prove you and not someone else in the car was on the phone? The legal issues are insurmountable with this.

Great just what you government-loving libs love, more laws.

Self driving cars will be a staple within 5-10 years. Nothing will be done about txting. It will be swept under the rug given the upcoming paradigm shift in transportation.
