Those texts are pathetic. What a beta loser. And I actually enjoyed his shows even though his TDS was off the charts.

I'm just here to lament that I wish I had the presence of mind at 17 to hit 37 year old actresses and then sue them for $3.5M.

To be fair, royal taste testers likely hated their jobs too.

Seems to me that it would be the opposite
I can assure you from experience, it is not. especially the heavy drinking part. that's the worst thing you could do. the social interaction drains your brain and your body which was already running at 25% to begin with.
quote:
Doesn't seem like the best course of action would be to vegetate in your depression and wallow alone in self pity.
I'm not saying that it's the best thing to do, I'm saying it's what depression makes you do. it makes it hard to find the energy to take a shower or cook or work or anything really.
quote:
Would make sense to force yourself out and perhaps come across a life altering experience
in general I would somewhat agree with you, but on a smaller scale. go on a new walk/run route, go to a new park, whatever. but it will not cure depression, and it can only do so much. that's why therapy and possibly medication should be considered, not just going outside.
quote:
I think in his case however, there was just not much that could be done or perhaps it was that the thing that could possibly save his life in the end was his job rather than having the experiences on his own terms
yeah you hit the nail on the head here. it's not like he's going on vacation by himself or with friends/family. he's going there to work. he's with producers, there are schedules, etc. More things that can overload someone in a depressive episode. it's just all around not a great combination of things here.

“I hate my fans, too. I hate being famous. I hate my job,” Bourdain wrote to his estranged wife Ottavia Busia-Bourdain, with whom he remained a close confidant even after their separation in 2016. “I am lonely and living in constant uncertainty.”
And to think some nearly worship this guy...

Always thought he was kind of a pretentious douche well before Trump was on the political radar. I used to watch No Reservations all of the time until I just couldn't take him anymore

There is a lot to be said for reaping what you sow. The guy made a living off of vitriol and hate for other people. That dude was absolutely scathingly hateful to people like Guy Fieri and Rachael Ray because he thought he was better than them and they didn't deserve to have as much or more success than he had.
That’s fair, but I don’t think warrants some of the responses seen in this thread. Very odd.

Indeed. A lot of the vitriol in this thread should be more directed at Argento.
Bourdain gave up his family for this whore, and then she repaid his faith by continuing to be a whore. And then blamed him for it before he killed himself. She's a cold-hearted psycho count.

That’s the way it appears. Bourdain was openly liberal, but also put a lot of effort into connecting with people who had opposing views of his own - unlike the vast majority of others.
Here’s a good article from Business Insider on his visit to West Virginia:
LINK
quote:
The American chef, who died on Friday, travelled to West Virginia to film an episode for his CNN show recently in a "plea for understanding" of the state, which overwhelmingly voted for Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
In an essay published in April, Bourdain described West Virginia as "breathtakingly beautiful" and called the stereotypes about its residents "as cruel, ignorant, misguided, patronizing, and evil as any other."
"Like any other episode of Parts Unknown, whether in Vietnam or Nigeria, or any city in the United States, this West Virginia episode is a plea for understanding of the people whose personal histories, sense of pride, independence, and daunting challenges deserve respect. It's a walk in somebody else's shoes.
"The stereotypes about West Virginia, it turns out, are just as cruel, ignorant, misguided, patronizing, and evil as any other. [...] Their identities, their aspirations, and their situation are far more complex than one can imagine, and their needs are more immediate."
He added: "I am intensely grateful for the kindness, hospitality, and patience the people of West Virginia showed to this ignorant rube from New York City who arrived with so many of the usual preconceptions, only to have them turned on their head."

Which is what? Doing whatever your boss tells you to do, taking his tongue lashings when you're five minutes late, wasting your life away in traffic everyday and then jumping on a message board to proclaim how tough you are?
You're right, that does sound pretty miserable.

I always appreciated his candor. Some have called him arrogant or pretentious, but I’ve found him to be exactly the opposite
I've known too many entitled assholes from educated, well-to-do backgrounds just like him. His "candor" is really justification for boorish behavior. "I'm an a-hole. Deal with it." Then, people who are impressed with his pseudo-intellect explain away him being a dickhead by chalking it up to demons.
If Bourdain hadn't learned to make a soufflé, or throw around food snob terms he'd be Tucker Max.

Guy is from all accounts a great dude. frosted tips or personality aside, he's a way better net plus to society than Bourdain.

Yeah, but he did, and was skilled in doing so. So, there’s that.

I didn't even know Bourdain was anti-Trump, but the first page of responses made it loud & clear. This site is too predictable.
