Vehicle Inspection is nothing but a scam - a partnership between the DMV, the Inspection folks, the EPA, and the repair shops designed to separate Texicans from their money.

When on earth are we going to overcome this ever-growing bureaucracy?

Thank you Texas Legislature.

This is a terrible idea. Inspections are for public safety (and yes, also a tax).

Emissions need to be regulated, not just for the environment, but because it's the air we breathe. And having vehicle safety equipment like brake lights, turn signals, et cetera, checked annually is a public safety measure.

Are you thanking them for saving you some time? They're still charging you for the inspection you don't have to get.

What pisses me off is they turned it into a straight up tax. If you are doing away with the inspection then do away with the fricking fee! Give me back my god damn money you fricking thieves!

Vehicle inspection no longer required for Texas drivers

Drivers must still pay the annual inspection fee of $7.50

The scam must continue no matter the circumstances.

I'm likely in a huge minority in saying I don't mind the fee at all. This $7.50 plus the yearly registration is still well below $100.00 combined. The gas tax per gallon is also somewhat reasonable. Overall, Texas has a very good highway system and is well maintained for all drivers. Much better than other states who likely pay more than we do annually. Could be much worse, like Colorado, where paying a cool grand to register a car is common.

Car manufacturers can take care of that. Its essentially illegal to pump out dirty cars these days.

No it's not. An annual point in time inspection doesn't do much, especially when the loss of one of those features is relatively instantly identified. Those things should be handled through citations if not fixed in a timely manner.

In all my life the only thing that ever stopped me from getting a renewed inspection was a windshield crack. And that time I just went somewhere else and got it done without fixing the crack.

This was the intent all along. Everything else was misdirection to make you believe it served a purpose.

I think the last 3 times I've been pulled over, the cop never once looked to see if I had an inspection sticker or not.

However, I've seen the state motorcycle police riding into small towns and ticketing locals for not wearing seat belts.

If it can stay within the speed limit, has turn signals and lights you should be able to drive on city streets.

I guess Harris isn't a major county.
Additionally, major counties are usually democratic strongholds.

So no inspection but still must pay the inspection fee.

At least they are admitting it was always about the revenue and not public safety.
