re: Texas town will spend $62.8M to build most expensive HS football stadium ever

Their education is top notch in McKinney. This will be used by multiple high schools. The tax payers in area have a huge property tax, which in part goes to the great education and high end facilities. Yes, it is very expensive. Allen, the next town over, made news years ago for this. Frisco, another neighbor, is helping fund Jerry Jones 1.5B dollar practice facility so that frisco teams can use it. If the education and schools facilities are nice, the tax payers have a right to vote and allocate their tax dollars to a nice football stadium to be shared by the 3 McKinney schools

quote:I certainly don't disagree generally, but this town/city government seems to be doing just fine money-wise. Not sure how it's all allocated but my property taxes monthly tells me they're doing ok.
I wouldn't vote to pay for that and think it's silly, but it's their town, their vote, and their money.

quote:heres the thing these ISD's already do a good job on educating , that's why so many people are moving to these mostly suburban ISD outside of Houston and Dallas.
money would be better spent on actual education

single purpose stadium that will be used like maybe 10 ten times out of the whole year.
multiple HS's in the Dist. that play football Thur/Fri/Sat , plus band, plus boys and girls soccer, plus lacrosse and field hockey in many cases
I'm not a math scientists but that's more than 10

quote:Mostly repeating myself, but again, I think you're right in theory. But the education and things to do around town for families is top notch. McKinney is/was voted the #1 place to live in America, and has been top 5 for a few years in a row. The town is doing fine.
Unless they would be getting a hell of a return on their investment in the stadium, that money would be better spent on actual education and other public works projects that everybody will actually use everyday instead a single purpose stadium that will be used like maybe 10 ten times out of the whole year.

I dont think it's easy for everyone to truly understand how the ISD's work. This is not your locally elected parish school board or police jury
The ISDs in high property tax areas are almost like a mini-corporation, they can spend their money how they please. The good schools dont have to allocate funds to prop up the shitty schools, because in cases like this, there are no shitty schools in their ISD

Have fun paying those taxes
If paying less taxes to live in a shittier place is better for you, then so be it.

Texas is better than LA.

Rofl I'd give my left nut to live in McKinney. Cept it would make my drive to Irving an hour long and the tolls would be ridiculous.
Such a beautiful area, you pay to play there, but you are getting world class everything. They also don't frick around with that culcha BS.

I'm not sure if bigger or better than Mckinneys but I know Katy ISD just approved building one bigger than Allen's.

It's just a terrible misallocation of funds.
What kind of message does that send owl?

I'm a bit concerned that my next promotion with my company assuming it goes down that way in the future will be in either Dallas or Fort Worth, and I'll be faced with the tough decision of the long arse drive with traffic while staying in McKinney or moving closer to the DFW area.
