My wife has been a teacher for 20 years. She works one week more after the students are done and one week before. She makes 59k a year and will have drop and a secure pension when she retires. I work for a global company and we use her medical insurance because it is half the price of mine. During the summer she is a housewife and does ZERO school work. She arrives 30 minutes before school starts and leaves 20 minutes after the buses leave. In 20 years I can’t recall her doing any school work at home. She uses the time that is set aside at school to do planning and grades papers during the student’s idle time. She knew the pros and cons when she chose the career. If she wanted to chase money I’d support it but she likes the quality of life that her career allows. Money is a short term motivator. I have a daughter and I hope she wants to be a teacher one day and can enjoy a fulfilling career with better than average insurance and retirement. My sister is also a teacher and neither have a part time job in the off-season. This discussion goes of the rails when hyperbole comes into it. Every teacher decided to teach and every teacher decides how long to remain a teacher. If they feel victimized it is by their own doing whether by living beyond the means their salary allows or the bullshite to pay scale hasn’t tipped enough.

You’re laughing at a state investing in children’s education, and then will probably wonder why LA is ranked 50/50 in education measurements

I don’t think anyone would argue that more successful kids are coming out of private school in Louisiana.
I don’t think it’s due to the schooling. It’s mostly due to the fact that private school kids’ parents actually give a shite about their education and push it in the home too. Many public school kids are trying not to get stabbed, and go home to their crack addicted parents; especially in cities like BR and NO.
Many private schools hire teachers that aren’t even certified, as long as they support that institution’s belief system.
