It is not called a reservation, but a wait list.
You tell them what time you are coming and then text when your party is there and they try to have a table waiting for you. I had a group, so I called ahead. If you have 6 or less you can do it online.
Unfortunately, the LA DMV had them beat this week. I needed to renew my license. I made a reservation and was seen within 5 minutes of my appointment ahead of the 4 others without reservations. I was in and out in 15 minutes and left with my new REAL ID.

I can't say I have ever been in a Texas Roadhouse, and god willing I never will.

Not a fan of Applebees. But I have no issues with a chain restaurant that provides me with good food at a reasonable (comparatively) price.

I travel a lot as well. I always do my homework and find locally owned restaurants in the area I will be. The 10 minutes of research is worth not having to eat Chili’s baby back ribs for dinner.

I get that and I used to do that when the option was there for me. Much of the time, I was in a situation where the time set aside for meals only allowed for that occasionally. When I did have time, I would typically ask some of the local guys I worked with where they would like to go, my treat. What that equated to would sometimes vary depending on if I was working with techs or engineers.

My traveling days are mostly behind me now, I should have pointed that out. It's been more than a decade since I did that consistently. You could research back then but not as easily as now and I am sometimes lazy LOL.

Yeah, I get that. For me it was primarily what I talked about at first, more of a fuel stop than a culinary experience I guess. I just want good service and good food consistently.

I’d go on Wednesday nights. They’d have a special for 9oz sirloin steak, 3 grilled shrimp and two sides for $9.99. Steak was always good. Best deal at a restaurant that I can remember. Sadly covid killed it.

Just pointing out that that because there's a chain restaurant you like does not mean you only ever eat there and don't try new things.

Their grilled pork chop dinner used to be hard to beat. Two big chops, cooked right with two sides. I'd often only eat one and take the other to go with a roll. I haven't been in three or four years, so I don't know if they still have it or if the chops are still the same size.

It's nothing amazing and probably a bit overhyped, but it is absolutely a decent steak for a reasonable price and a good place to take the family and not break the bank.
I understand why it's popular though. I'm not regularly taking my wife and kids to a high end steakhouse and dropping $250-300.
