It would be easier to break the door glass than the windshield.
Also, the article said first responders had trouble getting them out, why couldn't they have broken the glass?

Have all of the "why didn't he break the glass" people looked at his photo? Old and a woman's dog. Probably wasn't capable of muscling through.

Battery don't charge unless the car is running.
