I started to make that observation myself.
Why are the door locks not mechanically linked to the door handles? I am ignorant here - are any other cars like this? I am going to find out if my truck has mechanical linkages.
As for this case - it seems he could have written "H E L P" on the windshield - in blood if nothing else - to draw attention.
He must have passed out from some other cause while looking at the manual - surely he didn't sit there until heat exhaustion did him in.
