We did the opposite, we had Texas plates on our company trucks that routinely cross Louisiana on 1-10. They were always getting pulled by the State Police for off the wall minor stuff, we got Louisiana plates out of our office over there and bam they never get pulled over anymore.

The property tax works but if your main residence is Louisiana you will still get Louisiana’s state income taxes. Unless they are saying their main residence is in Texas. Which could be the case here.

I'm sure I am not in your area, but most of the TX tags in my area are rental cars. not sure why that is though... maybe the parent companies are based out of TX, so they have to be registered there?

I live very close to the Red River (Oklahoma-Texas border) and there are quite a few people living in southern Oklahoma with Texas plates.

Someone told me that Texas registration is cheaper, but frick all that noise because Texas requires an inspection and Oklahoma does not.

They’re paper Texas plates issued to illegals and poors that buy cars for cash in the Nola area. Most are uninsured and it’s a scam throughout the area. I suspect some law enforcement/ state insurance officials are in on the scam. They’re everywhere

it's a money grab but it only takes about 5-10 minutes, I combine mine with an oil change so I really don't even notice it

I love when someone tries to come at someone with a "I'm smarter than you." attitude, but they were absolutely wrong themselves with their OP.

1. Texas has required inspection process annually prior to receiving your registration sticker.

2. The issue that you're noticing more license plates for Texas than what you expect is most likely not a short simple answer. It's probably a combination of 1) more people are travelling farther these days to purchase their car because online shopping allows for it. And due to the fact that you are seeing license plates from a bordering state kind of validates this idea. 2) fraudulent registrations 3) people moving from one state to another but not bothering to update their registrations, or on that same thought, they bought their car in LA, moved to TX and changed their registration, and are travelling back to LA for various reasons.

Simply put, you're expecting a binary answer to a non-binary issue.

I used to have a South Dakota residency when I was a digital nomad. It's very easy to get, insurance was super cheap, and there was zero taxes. I could have kept it but it's hard if you're kids are school aged.

And they suck as drivers. Every Jack hole in the left lane holding up traffic seems to have a Texas plate. They refuse to move out of the left lane and at times

I've always found it to be the complete opposite.

Lived in Texas for 3 years and I can count on one hand the amount of times someone was driving too slowly in the left lane.

When I travel back to Louisiana, slow left lane drivers are rampant within the first hour.

WTF? I just renewed my inspection on Saturday in TX.

Beginning in 2025 no inspections will be required but if you live where emission checks are required now then you still have to get that done.

Let's say I know someone that moved from Texas to Louisiana due to a job transfer. This certain person was quite shocked when he saw how much it was going to cost to register his cars in Louisiana. On top of that the individual's car insurance cost was going to triple. Fortunately, the individual realized he just had to change his mailing address with the county in Texas that he previously resided in while in Texas to his new Louisiana address. The county in Texas could care less about where the individual lived because they were still getting the annual tag fees. They just continue to mail the tag renewal invoice to the new Louisiana address.

As long as the individual accepted electronic billing and correspondences from the insurance company, the local agent really wasn't concerned with verifying if the old residence was still valid as long as the insurance bill was paid. If the individual I know wasn't able to schedule a trip to Texas to get his car inspected prior to the expiration, that was also not a problem because there is about a 0% chance of getting pulled over in Louisiana for an expired out of state tag. If you are pulled over for speeding or whatever, they don't care if your out of state tag is expired. As an added bonus, you can apply for an antique tag in Texas if your vehicle is at least 25 years old. Those tags are good for 5 years and the vehicle doesn't have to be inspected.

I have been told all of this of course and have no first hand knowledge.

I don't think that registration in Texas has gone away yet.
I think it goes into effect in '25...
