This is just a rant and it’ll probably piss off people because many users on here live in Texas, but I’ve never understood the hype for it and why so many people want to live there. And before anyone goes, “but you’re from Ohio” well yeah no shite, I know that Ohio isn’t a great a place to live. But people in Texas have this sense of arrogance when it comes to flaunting their state as a paradise when in reality it isn’t.
Houston had a huge influx from Michigan in the late 70's/early 80's
I've got no problem with things you have issues with, the bible beaters were there long ago. My problem is that when I moved there in 1983, were ALL the laws regarding personal freedoms. You almost had to have a state license to take a crap. It isn't close to gun toting cowboys on the range.
Actually, it was bible beaters who kept the state without any bars until around 1970, and black tie events you had to bring a bottle in a brown paper bag to set on the table in the bag. It did have bars with all nude dancers but no alcohol. Is the TABC still like the Gestapo with plain clothes agents roamig bars to find some infraction, which could be someone who had a hard day of physical labor enjoying an ice cold beer and rest his head on the bar for 2 seconds for the bar to lose its license and the person enjoying the beer to be arrested for public drunkeness, or some barmaid forgetting to scratch the TABC label of bottle as it becomes empty?

BTW, a friend was just transferred from San Diego (La Jolla) to Houston and loves it. Everything is half price for them without people crapping on the sidewalk or dirty needles on bathroom floors

what is so different about the upper middle class lifestyle in LA vs TX?
You can go in public without being surrounded by either white trash or hood rats.

Tis true. I’d take OKC (minus income tax) hands down over Houston. Lived in both and currently back in H-town. It is a dystopian nightmare. 20 years ago it was decent. All gone to hell now. Abilene isnt bad either. Abilene and Amarillo both nice.

Your ignorance is showing. Perhaps you only ate at chain restaurants that time you went to Houston. But they have an incredibly diverse food scene and top of the class in a few cuisines.
Houston has amazing food. The Applebees reference is the mass merchandised design and heartbeat of the place. Vibe of Applebees.

To be this pissed off about a state you don't even live in at 8am on a Sunday morning...

Not necessarily on the housing costs

Compare those to the local schools here and you just think they are fine.
quote:this is the problem with you people. You can’t concede anything. Traffic in dfw is well known for being horrific. I lived there after college and heard coworkers bitch about it all the time. There’s no need to be dishonest
Maybe Austin but not really DFW. I live here. As I said, traffic is when I can only go 45 mph instead of 80.

I’ve literally never heard one person ever say Texas is a paradise.

And I’d MUCH rather pay property taxes that contribute to my local schools and other areas I can actually see benefit

This coming from a guy who's home state considers sweatpants and a Katzenmoyer jersey business casual.

More job opportunities
This is underselling it. Most industries in Texas allow for a much better career trajectory than in Louisiana. It isn’t close.

Texas is alright but id rather be here in Nebraska.
Wayyyy too many people in Texas. Even when I go to Omaha it feels way overcrowded
