Note to self…If Houston is the benchmark of life in life, it is time to get a bigger world perspective.

This is simply not true

Texas is a large state with a bunch of different cultures/scenery.

We got people on here judging the entire state when all they've ever seen is East Texas

Dallas, Austin, and Houston are basically sprawled out, decentralized cities full of corporate chain restaurants where there is no walkability at all and you have to drive 15-20 minutes just to get to places. All three of those cities feel like they were taken and artificially transplanted in farm country. They have no organic feel at all.

This doesn’t describe Austin at all.

PROs (Houston and suburbs)- never have to leave your bubble. Have everything you need. If you don't wanna leave your bubble, you can typically be anywhere in 30 minutes.

CONs (Houston and suburbs)- Food scene is vastly overrated. Seafood is terrible. Houston now has fine dining seafood. Fine dining seafood ??. Plate lunches are non existent. Nobody wants tacos every damn day. Houston is now a pay to drive city. Hope you're insured well bc half of the drivers have no insurance. Oh, and it's hot as balls.

Yep, we work on oil rigs, praise the lord, and eat at Applebees after the service.

Have a downvote.

You don't even talk about the worst problem with Texas: the weather for 6 months out of the year is hot as ballz. Having lived in other places in the US, there are many better places to live during the summer months.

That said, I love Texas. And often think about my life if I pursued a job in Dallas when I got out of LSU. I've visited Texas often and don't see the issue with the roads you are talking about. Sure, there's construction, but that is expected.

I like the people (brown or otherwise), the spirit / attitude, the history, the food, and especially the honky tonks.

I will be living in Texas in the next 2-3 years, in or near Austin, as I make my retirement tour of the US. It just won't be in the summer.

No sir, it’s a fact. I didn’t post that to say Houston is the best. Been in and around it for a good portion of my life off and on, and have traveled extensively- there are places I’d rather live, visit, and exist in. I posted it because it is true. Just about every culture on the planet has a restaurant or shop in the greater Houston area.

I think Texas is a much better state than Louisiana. Louisiana is a shite hole. I've said that many times. There's just nothing that redeeming about Texas that would get us to move there over actually nice places.

But this is what's crazy to me. Your rational is so flawed that it's comical.

"Texas is a better place to live than Louisiana in every single measurable way. I'm not even arguing that. But if I'm gonna leave this shite hole, I want to live in paradise!"

This is exactly the mindset that people sit in Louisiana and let life just go past them. Next thing you know they're 58 living in Denham Springs with 2 jet ski's they don't use planning their next trip to Gulf Shores to slam white claws.

But hey, Texas just ain't worth the upgrade baby!

Rather have cultura than cultcha. Either way, Texas is big enough that you can find whatever you're looking for.

Love Cultcha? Go to south Houston, south Dallas, east Ft Worth and some smaller east Texas towns.

Love curry? Go to Sugarland, northern Dallas suburbs, or northern Austin suburbs.

Love cultura? Throw a dot at any of the Texas metros, South Texas and the Panhandle.

Liberal? Austin or Denton

Rather be in Maine? West Houston or far north suburbs, most of the western side of DFW, Hill Country, most of rural Texas (excluding South Texas)

If Texas was all that great they would be going to Texas beaches to slam White Claws.

I would go to Cinnamon Shore 10 out of 10 times before I went to gulf shores or orange beach.

Your ignorance is showing. Perhaps you only ate at chain restaurants that time you went to Houston. But they have an incredibly diverse food scene and top of the class in a few cuisines.
