Wife has friends in the Guadalupe in new Braunfels this second. I assume the lake is able to catch all of this being they are downstream of the lake?
They are in rented tubes. I’d imagine rental places are pretty well informed on when to tell people to get lost and head out.

Tube rentals are mostly south of the lake.
Been boating on Canyon Lake for 30 years. Very disappointing to see the mighty lake at an all time low. Was on the lake last Sunday and new hazards ‘in middle of lake’ due to low water.
This is much needed water. And likely 20% of what is needed to get it back up…. Issue is not climate… it is the growth and migration from California. New home building is extreme (tens of thousands per month).
Lastly, know of a Louisiana college student who is a counselor at one of the camps… pray for her!

Kids Camp Mystic in Hunt, TX was hit really hard. They were pulling 9yr olds out of the cabin windows in chin-deep water.
My neighbor still hadn’t heard that they located her daughter as of 9 am this morning. By 10:30 I believe they had located all. Parents were told to stay put as the roads were not passable and river expected to rise another 5ft
** edit: as of 12:57 not all children accounted for. Parents were told that they would be emailed directly if their child is still missing. Video circulating of helicopters being used to rescue small children from tree tops

Holidays and TX flooding, strange connection.
The Memorial Day flood in 2015 took 13 souls, doing the same as the July 4th flood of 2025. Sweeping away RVs, cabins and people. The rivers in this part of TX are very shallow and often bone dry in the summer. When a wall of water moves downstream it easily escapes the river banks devastating the areas.
Memorial Day Flood 2015
My drive to work in San Antonio at the time included crossing the river in Blanco. The flood washed the bridge out. RV park and cabins strewn about and smashed all over the place. Looked like a bomb went off and then a flood.
ETA to add a few more:
* 1981 Memorial Day Flood: Over a foot of rain in less than three hours led to 13 fatalities and substantial damage. This flood was a catalyst for creating Austin's Flood Early Warning System (FEWS).
* 2013 Memorial Day Flood: Highway 281 in San Antonio was submerged due to over 17 inches of rain, leading to its closure for several days. Two people died and many homes were damaged or destroyed.
* 2015 Halloween Flood: Hurricane Patricia, after making landfall in Mexico, brought heavy rains to the Houston area, causing flooding in the week leading up to Halloween.

I'm in Colorado with with my sis and brother in law, and they are from kerrville. What they are having happen is fricking horrible.

Kerrville is some of the prettiest areas I’ve ever been too. I would love to retire to hill country one day. Thoughts and prayers with them

There hasn't been a boat launch open in Canyon since last fall, folks who had rented boat stalls in the marina have had the lake to themselves all year.

There has been plenty of rain around NB, probably not enough to cause issues south of dam though where the tubing takes place. The lake will eat up all of the water which is great news, doubt it has any effect south of the dam.

My daughter was a counselor at Mystic for an earlier session. She’s on a group text with current counselors there. I don’t have enough beer to calm the nerves and I don’t have a kid there. I can’t imagine what some of these parents are going through.

What are you hearing? My wife’s good friend in Dallas has a neighbor who apparently has a daughter who is missing. I’m hoping it’s just lagging information and everyone is safe

Sounds like Mystic still has missing campers. Daughter camped and was counselor at another area camp for fifteen years. So sad.

Several teens from Beaumont area missing from there

Just saw 6 confirmed deaths so far with a bunch of missing according to a SA news outlet. No idea where the 6 were at, sounds like there are still kids unaccounted for from Mystic.

I know they have found some kids and staff in trees 5 miles from the camp. They said they know where everyone is but other media reports are that kids are still missing. Who knows. We’re talking about 16 yr olds texting in their foreign language.
