Why would Texas be ok with continuing to send that money to neighboring states? Particularly when the state has become less conservative.

The Baptists there are afraid they will run into each other at a casino.

Texas didn't get Sunday Beer sales until recently. Baptists sen't going to allow it.
If it happens though Tillman Fertitta will have a casino in Galveston in no time

Baptists should get in the business of a casino. Since some churches have ATM’s in the sanctuary, why not add a Jesus themed slot machine. If you win, the church automatically gets 10%, and you can donate any more than you want whether you’re winning it or just playing it. The revenue goes to the church and a small part goes to taxes for the state.

You can always hear more people yelling Jesus at a casino than a church.

Texas has had Sunday beer sales ever since I’ve been drinking beer, used to have to wait until noon to buy it but they recently changed it to 10am

On WWL radio today they said the tax money LA gets from gaming (remember, gambling is against the state constitution) now exceeds the tax money the state gets from oil and gas.

Just imagine the tax money from legal cannabis Louisiana could get, without having to jump through the hoops of medical cannabis.

Here's an interesting factoid about casinos.

They make poor people much poorer. But also everyone else that uses them... but they target poor people.

The fact that people are on a government schedule to purchase alcohol is ridiculous.

he wants gaming properties that “are high quality and that create jobs and that improve the lifestyle of those communities,”

This is so stupid. Anyone who has been to a Louisiana casino in Lake Chuck or Shreveport sees the type of Texas people who go to casinos. There’s way more trash than high rollers. He’ll get the jobs. But I want him to define “high quality” and then he can come visit the Nugget or some other property and see how much “quality” from Texas there really is. Lots of one star people looking for a cheap rate on a five star room.

Building costs on the west end of Galveston are over $350 per ft. On your lot. If you can find a lot to purchase upon which to build. Yet, it is still....Galveston.

Only been to the GN in LC but if you think that is a five star room you need to get out more.

Oh I definitely agree and wasn’t implying that in any way. . But it doesn’t matter how nice the facility is. The trash always finds a way to get in and it quickly turns to shite.

This legislator better lower his expectations or just be honest and admit he’s really not THAT open to casinos.
