Tesla's market valuation = Ford, Honda, GM, FiatChrysler, and Damlier combined

Tesla is now worth a General Motors plus a Honda plus a Ford, plus a Fiat Chrysler and a Daimler. Then you’ve got pretty much what Tesla is now worth.
$183 billion.
Toyota, which used to be the most valuable car brand in the world, is now worth $174 billion according to Yahoo Finance.
Tesla stock has been on a tear since March, when it dropped down to $361 per share. Now it’s been north of the $1,000 line at $1,025 (before dropping slightly on profit-taking) for a total market capitalization that’s now about $10 billion north of Toyota. Toyota stock has been mostly flat for the past year.
No question that Tesla is very innovative and they make very compelling products. But are they really worth that much more than Toyota, Honda, GM, and Ford?

Market cap is a laughable way to measure the value of a company, but whatever.

My new Cybertruck is going to be totally awesome. It's going to look like a giant doorstop.

Considering Tesla has had 3 maybe 4 quarters of profit in a 10 year period, the answer is no. Tesla has relied on investors to keep cash flowing in which has worked for them but other manufacturers are beginning to introduce their own vehicles and thats is when Tesla will run into serious problems unless they can develop methods of manufacturing and distribution that can help maintain a competitive advantage.

People are banking on their technological advancements, not in their production capabilities.
Their computing advances are significantly better than every other companies. Basically, they are a tech company pretending to be a car company

Aside from being a publicly formed consensus on the price of a stake in a company's equity, but whatever. Let us know when you come up with a better way to determine that baw.

It's valued like a tech company, not a car company.

I personally thought the assembly line under the tent was pushing the human race to a new level of innovation.

I'm only half kidding about the Cybertruck. I am thinking about getting the tri-motor version.

Elon Musk is a fricking genius.
His space stuff is the reason I'm an investor in Tesla.

I feel like I've heard this over and over for the last 5-6 years.

That sounds like some massive artificial inflation

When is autonomous driving going to happen in LA?

Tesla isn’t just a car company do it’s not an apples to apples comparison.

It's like when they said Uber was worth some ridiculous number like $900 billion

They are starting to turn profits in some quarters - and by the time investors start treating them like a normal car company (around the time when VW, Toyota, and GM switch to a majority EV lineup), they'd have multiple plants and a full lineup of popular vehicles.

I thought I read somewhere that their battery IP is worth just as much as their cars.
I think the notion that they are more than an automaker is accurate and part of the reason for the crazy valuation.

They are not held back by decades and decades of Union crap and inflated management.
Tesla can spend so much more money on making a better product.
If Musk can get the million mile battery, oh my.

I've said it before.. any of the big manufacturers could do what Tesla has done, tech wise. Chevy volt anyone? (It was an ugly POS, but that's not the point). Nissan Leaf? Tesla is just more willing to kill people with beta versions of autopilot than the other manufacturers. I think Tesla will survive/thrive as a luxury electric manufacturer. They are not revolutionary, however. They are still limited by battery technology like everyone else.
