TESLA unveils semi truck (500 mile max range, 0-60 in 5 secs, 400 miles in 30 mins charge)

He confirmed that it is equipped with 4 independent electric motors on rear axles – enabling insane torque for a 0 to 60 mph acceleration with a full load in 20 seconds.
As for without a full load, we are talking about 5 seconds to reach the same speed.
Tesla piled on the safety-related bits, too. The battery is reinforced to keep it from exploding or catching fire or whatnot in the event of a crash, the reinforced windshield glass shouldn’t chip or crack, and onboard sensors will look for the signs of jackknifing and adjust power to the individual wheels to keep everything in line.
And of course, the truck gets the Enhanced Autopilot features that let it drive itself on the highway, staying in its lane and a safe distance from neighboring vehicles.
Walmart has pre-ordered 15 trucks for its fleet.

Can you imagine how much "dirty energy" it takes to make that truck?!

Until it rear ends someone with a radar jammer.

Coming to you in the year 2211.

Gonna have to get the range to at least 600 miles, the legal driving limit per day.

Are those giant touch screens next to the steering wheel to help the driver stay focused?

At first, I interpreted that as technology preventing it from driving in the left lane. I was briefly in support.

One is a systems display and the other is a GPS.

Talking out of your arse. There is no mileage limit for commercial drivers. The limits are based on hours 'on duty.'

It will never be ready on time.

You've heard of a day late and a dollar short?
Tesla will be a decade late and $50 million over budget.

They use a combo of sensors from laser, radar, and IR

Never been a problem with my car. It uses radar and a camera to judge distances and slow down when getting too close.

A lot of local traffic is using compressed natural gas and it's competitive. Not sure if they are looking to use it for over the road but they should.

Damn, I wish I had pulled the trigger on Tesla stock back in 2013 when it was $78.00 a share....

Not really. Considering they can legally be on the clock 11 hours a day, 600 miles is generally used for driving miles per day. That will be enforced even more when ELDs take effect next month. If you think a driver is going to pull over and spend a half hour to charge up, while on the clock, keeping him from maximizing his daily travel, you're crazy.
