Electrek article LINK

Direct youtube link to video.

Which car would you buy?
I will say M3's typically traps around 117-119mph.

quote:

Tesla’s Model 3 Performance is trying to become the new leader in midsize performance sedans by taking on the longtime reigning champion, the BMW M3.

Now Tesla’s new electric car is going head-on against the BMW M3 Competition in a drag race. When launching the vehicle, Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed the Model 3 Performace is 15% quicker than the BMW M3 and with better handling, and “will beat anything in its class on the track.”

DragTimes put them against each other on the drag strip.

Shouldn't an electric theoretically always have an edge over a regular car simply due to direct drive vs. transmission?

I'd buy the M3. IDGAF about 0-60 times.

Yes, and they are famously torque-y motors. I'd be more interested in a road track race.

Neither. I'd take Brooke's Mclaren 720s. That car has been wrecking cars left and right. I have no doubt the only superfast part of the Ferrari 812 vs 720s will be the super fast arse beating the Ferrari takes.

Id be more interested in how long each one takes to get me from Colorado to Louisiana. I'm thinking the M3 wins that battle.

Straight line acceleration is the only advantage a Tesla has over a performance car.

Drive a Tesla 3 around for a day and it doesn’t come close to measuring up to a BMW M3, Mercedes AMG C43, or Audi RS3.

The one that wasn’t built by a con man.

Just kidding. I would probably buy the Tesla Model S before I actually invest in Tesla. The Model 3 doesn’t appeal to me.

I autocross a hybrid...do pretty well against Camaro SS's and BMWs. Torque is pretty good all the time regardless of the gear you're in. Times below from our last event. 2nd and 3rd have been at it a bit longer than I have.

1 2014 Infiniti Q50s Hybrid 46.006 [-]3.301 -
2 2017 Chevy Camaro SS 49.307 +3.301 +3.301
3 2011 BMW 335Is 49.554 +0.247 +3.548
4 2009 Dodge Charger 54.384 +4.830 +8.378

Won the class last season.

I'd bet it would do pretty well as long as you had battery left. Mine does get slower as the battery is depleted. I have to leave the door open and seatbelt off to charge between runs.

AWD and electric, hmm what a shocker it barely beats it in the quarter mile. Stretch that out to a half mile or a few laps around a road course or some twisty roads up in the hills and get back to me.

I don't think I'd ever purchase a BMW for the sole reason being there is no fricking dip stick to check the oil with.
