BTW, I like Teslas and think that Musk is a genius. He just isn't up to running a public company and he is leading it to ruin. Someone else may end up with his technology and make something of it.

Thats the problem though...who can run HIS tech? The dude is a mad scientist of sorts. Which is great, but we are being asked to bank it all on one guys vision that no one has stepped up to compare with. Yes he isnt the first to think of any of it, but has shown he can do what others havent been able to.

Let china do what they want imo. We can keep tabs on it, and transition accordingly...properly. Its easier to do when you have no infrastructure to replace. This is why we need the china talks to go our way more than lefties would want.

We need to be ahead of innovation without them stealing it. This concerns me more than them setting the lego blocks out now in their empty unpopulated cities.

Major car companies have surpassed TSLA on the actual car front.

The supercharging network is amazing and should get more credit than it does.

TSLA really doesn't car if China is taking their technology.

I wasnt talking about tsla, but this is the problem. Not defending your tech isnt smart long term. The "open source" mentality is stupid.

We as a nation need to be more careful. Tsla should be held accountable for not protecting their tech, especially if they use govt benefits to assist in creating them. 100% stand alone companies can do whatever they want.

Musk easily qualifies as a "genius" by most people's definitions.

He cons the government into giving him federal subsidies
wtf?

He didn't con the government. The government offers subsidies to many industries in order to promote growth or specific consumer actions. It is the responsibility of companies to take advantage of these.

I find it hilarious that it's almost always the same people saying that Tesla should not take advantage of subsidies but fully support ITEP for creating jobs.

Once again, the dude has built a car manufacturer and a fricking rocketship company from scratch. He woke up one morning and decided he wanted to launch shite into outer space, and he did it.

Give me a list of things he hasn't delivered on yet, then we'll discuss the list of things he has.

Why is it a publicly traded company then??
The same reason any company goes public, to raise funds for growth. Do you believe growth should slow after going public? That doesn't make any sense.

There use to be rules to ipo, and stay on the market.
Like what?

This is why people are forced to care as it messes with true fundamentals in the market.
Care to explain what "true fundamentals" means? Nobody is forced to take a position on any company, so why do you feel forced to care? If you don't understand the operations of the company and where it's going, don't invest.

The new "IPO-ing" companies with horrible #s is not good. Essentially it's just getting money back from the stock market for early private Series A,B,C,D...XYZ investors
Yeah, that is the point. Going public is selling the company. Why do you sell anything? To acquire funds for other purposes, whether it's to invest in further growth, pay off debt, or whatever.

He basically 'open sourced' the work for the greater good of humanity.

Also knew Chinese companies were going to steal the technology so the idea was basically not to get tied up in lawsuits defending them.

He gave up on the idea if defending patented technology.

Now I know you are being willfully ignorant. Even after I point out you don't understand the bargain Musk struck with his offer of Tesla tech you don't bother to educate yourself but instead just double down.

First, Tesla has not given up any rights to protect their patents. They have said you can use our tech free of charge "for the greater good" however in "payment" for that tech you must allow us to use your patented technology and processes free of charge as well. Again if you are simply a sound bite learner it all seems rather stupid but at the core it is a potentially brilliant play.

This is brilliant if someone has something you want.

What if they don't have something you want? There goal is just to put your technology in their cars.

If they have nothing Tesla wants they can not allow them to use their patented tech, period. If an upstart sub-system manufacturer or shell company tries to get something from nothing from Telsa, Tesla can simply decline and sue if the company goes forward with infringing products. Tesla did NOT give up any rights to their patents, they simply made an offer of technology sharing.

Wut? Which company? Which car? The Chevy Volt? Which other electric car are wealthy libs driving these days?

One of the biggest factors hurting TSLA stock is that oil went from $4.00 gallon to $2. I don't know what the future will hold, but if it spikes up again TSLA is going to shoot to the moon.
