This type of marketing strategy occurs in almost every industry, different customers pay different prices based on the features or capibilities that they pay for even though they already have the hardware, nothing new about it.

Before you try to argue efficiency, or longer lasting battery life, if I buy the unlocked battery, they advertise the same life as the 60k version. There is no disclaimer that purchasing it will damage its functionality or longevity

It's not about the other version damages the battery. The other guy who said that charging Li-ion to capacity reduces it is wrong.

And it WILL drive as long as the 60k.

It's just that the 60k driver will be able to use it longer than the 75k before they notice a reduction in capacity from wear and tear.

And people think the guy from South Africa is a genius because he has a funny name and an accent.

He's a con man, people. Wake up.

Tesla was a visionary and philanthropist. Edison was kind of a turd who took advantage of Tesla. And anybody else he could use. Good inventor, great businessman and less than ideal person. Without Tesla and Westinghouse we'd all be using the crappy, expensive, ineffective DC power Edison claimed was better because he had the patents.

If anyone is even remotely interested in this stuff, read Empires of Light. I remember a little of it and feel almost informed.

I'm still floored that he took an idea of a boutique electric car and used the money to self finance the car R+D, with the profits from the results of that being enough to finance developing new technology for space launches.

There's probably countless other examples of things we just accept without realizing it's no different than what Tesla is doing here, but damn that Tesla, what a scam!!!

Not a scam, but when the copy salesman finally owned up it I did feel like I was lied to for the previous 30 minutes of bullshite on the "features differences".

It's really just lack of actual innovation and features to sell, so the company artificially creates tiers to market. It's whatever.

So can you hack the car to take more battery power?

Sure, at your own risk.

What Tesla is doing bothers me more than the most of the others because it isn't protecting the end user from damage like intel, or paying forward a service like a cable company. Instead, they are limiting hardware that one person purchases but not another based off of essentially a license.

No, they offered the consumer an option to limit their hardware for a discount. And, some consumers wanted that option.

It's the opposite of shitty.

How us the 60kWh more affordable then if they use the same things in them? This sounds pretty shitty on Tesla's part. Glad they sent the update but frick them for limiting it in the first place (unless there's some good reason that I'm missing).
Seriously man. What a POS.

That's definitely what Musk is known for, a lack of innovation.

The company couldn't create it if there was no demand for it.
